close to dnf. characters feel dry, & right now I'd rather spend time reading other stuff. realizing that this won not the big award, was a nominee but not a winner. the concept is cool. but I've yet to get any suspense or engagement. not even the chess matches were thrilling. no action. and too much writing in between dialogue!

feel as if nothing at all has happened!! just them growing up apart, almost connecting, then growing up some more, apart, & now meeting. it’s tedious to read on how genius they are at words & math, but this plays to the Doctrine thing. also, confused by the writing within writing style

& are all of the pairs caucasian children?
& this feels slightly creepy reading::peering into two children’s lives, it ain’t a child’s story (the whole manipulated birth is not a kids’ subject) so I’m wondering that the audience is for adults but from a motherly voice. my readings of late are all from women

so much narrative & drivel in between the dialogue, there is always this onniscient presence narrating every feeling & whim of Dodger & Roger, I’m pulled out, constantly, by an interjection from the author on what exactly she or he is experiencing, & how others behave around & respond to the twins is verbosely spelled out. but it’s altogether fine, & makes for an atmosphere or mood

I annotate most, & enjoy those strides when I ease off the annotation & just read. Often the overall gist is grasped. It's more difficult to tell who has done what to whom, or from whom came which, etc. The TOs & FROMs & FORs & BYs can all confuse details. In English these details would certainly be important but here there are permissions to "read on."

Slightly confusing, anything w/time is, I like the idea though, of pairs, and six, and splitting something called the Doctrine, it turns magicky w/how a person can alter time & stuff. It deals w/designing humans, so it's sciency & weird, as for the writing, I do kinda lean toward wanting less description & more left to imagine, in terms of dialogue & getting to know who is who.

sounds good, time travel, can go off the vibe from tenet film; another mention of Lovecraft, probably won’t ever read him but interesting to hear twice now of him, sure left a bad taste in folks’ mouths
