I have arrived at the 1979 revolution and Ken comprehend now the state of affairs and the mind state of the nation. This book has some really strong elements that are useful, like its theme of arbitrary rule and of short term societies, and how everything was very insecure, and the suspicions of the shah etc.

A-booking this—28 hrs long! Perfect to have on at my brainless side job! This whole series is bizarre, well in a silly way, with all the talking beings, but I have appreciated the whole concept of the uplift and have invested enough time so far to just kind of sit back and relax and let the author take me on some ride through the galaxy of his imagination

Some pros & cons thus far: The Babi movement was hardly addressed. Book loses points for this bc it shows a prejudice/bias/ignorance in regards to it. In other words, the author clearly did only the barest of research for it. Another con: Not enough on everyday matters. A pro: Reiteration of arbitrary rule & of short-term society is effective, allowing for a structure w/which to comprehend.

Lol I’m scrolling reviews for this and they’re all written in Arabic (or Farsi). Real curious to know what they say

A pantheon of brutal, hideous, ruthless & merciless rulers. Damn. As if the density of the history of Iran is not enough, there is added the heinous punishments & barbaric exercises of authority, power, & control. Whew. Ugly ugly ugly. Makes ya grateful that we don’t live in that ‘old’ world where the only way was the way of the sword…

This is very detailed, if it were any more detailed, it would just be too much. There are so many names, and alternate names, and important dates. It is, but many students fear, in regards to history. But it has merit, quality, scholarship, and so it is good. There aren’t any footnotes, so all of the pages are dense and long. I can only get through this by hacking away at it daily.
