“ not all women can birth children, and not all people who can birth children are women; still, the ability to do so, is often used as a defining characteristic of legitimate womanhood.” …aaaaannnnndddd what do u (politely) say to this? That what essentially defines a woman (reproduction) is no longer valid? We ALL have to think like this so as not to hurt LGBQT feelings/identities? Too much, man. Not 4 me.

Whew—this book rankles me some: It’s subjective. There are some BIG hurdles to jump in reaching the finish-line conclusion of the author. You gotta be alright w/men having sex w/men…and u gotta kinda see things from that walk-of-life, or viewpoint, and this proves difficult for me. The larger point tho, is sound, and makes sense: Don’t stigmatize people, it just makes it all worse.

An exceptional book that taps the Good & the Useful of Psychology. Profound, insightful, highly enlightening. Also very touching in that it was written prior to WW2. Captures humanity naked, at large, like, how it brought up those puritan motives that tried for Prohibition (of alcohol), and how/why that was indicative of a deeper spiritual/mental dilemma facing not just Americans but everyone: How to live right.

Such a good, little golden nugget of a book: “Forgetting about eternity, and replacing knowledge of the antecedently real with hope for the contingent future, it’s not easy.” He’s talking about ‘Merrcanz, about us!

“ they wanted to put hope for a casteless and classless America in the place traditionally occupied by knowledge of the will of God. They wanted that utopian America to replace God as the unconditional object of desire.”

This book is good when it gets specific but boring & uninteresting when it gets vague & abstract & general. The Amish parts & Hasidic parts are very interesting but alot of the book is generic, common sense, it is just kinda describing the different societies that have pluralist natures
