Alison realises the dolphins have a plan on their own, which includes Li Na. The secret is baffling and intense.

Things are surely in dire straits for the world, from political breakdowns to the lack of sustainable resources. Alison Shaw and the rest of the team have come to see that things are circling the proverbial drain with each passing day. However, they have been able to see a great silver lining with their better understanding of dolphins and gorillas. New layers are revealed, perhaps the only positive to come of late.

Rayden further explores the world of lies and deceit by focussing her attention on those who use their charismatic nature to convince others to follow to support them. Be it politically, financially, or even through pharmacological means. People are highly susceptible to those who have an answer or a ‘cure’ for what ails them, which proves to be too strong to ignore. Lies beget false truths, which turn some to sheep.

Everyone lies... even if their pants are not hanging from a telephone wire, as the old children’s rhyme goes. Aja Raden makes that clear from the opening pages, but she also delves into how it is not our fault. Humans are inherently liars, sometimes as a means of protecting themselves and all because history has ingrained it into us. Raden explores the different types of lies that fill the world and how they evolved!

While many are still trying to determine what China had planned, another powerful nation seeks to target the market on the technology. Secretly, Russia is making a play for whatever the Chinese had and will stop at nothing to get it. Elsewhere, Alison is beginning to see that there is a strong correlation between Dulce (the gorilla) and her dolphins, so much so that they can communicate outside of translation.

It’s a race to get hold of whatever China is hiding before they can push it all the way underground. There’s little time, but the US Navy is ready for whatever it will take to ensure things are done swiftly and without international incident. Meanwhile, Alison realises why the capuchin monkeys are being captured, tied to the fact that their DNA may possess some traits like the plants the Chinese once sought. Onwards!

Robert Mazzara is saddened to read about this, which causes him to think back on his childhood and the gang of friends he had. Growing up in the 1960s and 70s, these boys suffered greatly at the hands of their abusive parents, but stuck it out, calling themselves the Buzz Boys. Much happened to them all!

Following up on the stunning end to the previous novel, the Americans are baffled about the end result of the Chinese destruction of the plant they extracted, left to guess if there might have been some internal squabbles that led to the decision.
