Daniel Pike may have agreed to his toughest case to date. Defending one of his sworn enemies, Conrad Sweeney, will put Pike in the middle of many messy situations. Sweeney denies having anything to do with the dismembered body in his personal freezer, though has amassed a number of enemies who might want to see him permanently incarcerated. Pike works his magic, but the DA is not about to let this one go lightly.

Montell continues her detailed look into how groups use cultish language in a variety of ways to get what they want and indoctrinate others to do so as well. There can be a coded means of speaking, as with the Scientologist, or a sense of ‘win or perish’, as with those who are part of an MLM. Either way, the way something is explained creates an inner group and an ostracised outer non-membership, which is clear. Hmm!

Amanda Montell is back with an explosive book about the power of language as it relates to persuasion in all forms. Referring to this language as ‘cultish’, Montell explores how society has tossed ‘cult’ around forever, only recently giving it a negative connotation. She delves into how expression is used to shepherd groups to believe certain things, choosing religious groups in the opening section of her book.

The Americans may have stumbled, but they are far from defeated, though they are, as yet, uncertain what awaits them. Much plotting on both sides makes it highly tense.

With a strong suspicion that her Charleston case has ties to that old Montreal one, Tempe works both in order to find a connection. It’s not that easy, but one can assume the teenage girl angle will bring up some connections soon. While staying in Canada, Tempe uncovers some truths that were overlooked when the victim was without an identity, including a vaccine angle that might shed light on a great deal. Onwards!!

After leaving Charlotte in the aftermath of a weather event, Tempe makes her way to South Carolina, armed with a number of questions. Two bodies have been discovered in a container, with eerie parallels to a case she worked on in Montreal. Heading north, Tempe begins to dig around as the bodies are identified and the case takes on new life.

A television personality is found in her bedroom, an apparent suicide. However, even with a note that points towards a self-inflicted demise, it seems all but impossible for her to have slit her throat with such vigour. It will take some detailed sleuthing to find out just what's going on. The killer, hiding in the shadows, has decided that the victim need be posed in a specific way to mirror a popular snapshot.

Archer makes his way to California, with a new friend in tow. As they try to settle in, Archer makes his way to the prospective job that awaits him. He's hired on the spot and tossed into a case where a mayoral candidate is apparently being blackmailed for an indiscretion he did not commit. As Archer digs a little deeper, things begin happening, including a murder at a local club. PI work is surely not glamourous!!

As Johansson and Wiik arrived on the oil barge they realise that things are much worse than they imagined. Contained in the middle of the ocean, these workers have little to do besides stir up trouble, or make some with one another. The killer is surely one of them, though there is much to consider. After an attack, another body is discovered and Johansson is sure the killer is inching closer. Storms brew outside!!

Still working with the Stockholm Polis, DI Jamie Johansson is called in to see her superior. She has been asked, alongside her jaded partner, to attend a crime scene well off the Norwegian coastline, aboard an oil rig. It would appear one of the employees has been murdered, with the killer surely one of the others working there. As it is a Swedish oil company, they will handle everything, but must work covertly.

Still trying to find himself, Archer makes his way to Reno, in hopes of continuing along to California. A job awaits him, but this temporary stop will be nice to rejuvenate him. While strolling through one of the casinos, he learns the art of gambling, but is not entirely sold. However, after meeting a lucky lady, they stumble upon a man whose luck at the tables have left him a wanted man. Now the race is on!

As Keller begins to probe into some of the attacks on fellow CIA operatives, he reconnects with an old flame who serves also as a key informant about what has been going on in different parts of the world. It would seem Russia has been pulling strings behind the scenes, with Keller’s death high on their agenda. As Keller eludes death a few more times, he realises there is no time to waste if he is to strike back.

Scrambling to hide after a horrible plane crash in France, Jake Keller barely makes it out alive, as someone is trying to locate him. Upon returning to the States, Keller cannot remember the specifics of the flight, which is put to a form of amnesia. However, when someone tries to kill him with a drug OD, Keller can only guess that he is a new target. Has someone discovered something new or is he on an old kill list?

After Cindy receives word from a panicked person on her news blog, she agrees to put the woman in touch with SFPD's Sergeant Lindsay Boxer. The woman explains her daughter and granddaughter are missing, accusing her son-in-law of foul play. Boxer agrees to poke around, but is initially shelved from doing much. When a body turns up on shore, the case takes on new urgency and it appears someone is playing a sick game.

Jake prepares to bring both sides together, in hopes of foiling the plot of the Somali warlord. However, nothing is quite as simple as it seems, pushing things into areas that no one could have expected. With added cargo that proves highly controversial, Jake makes a decision that has dire consequences and pushes him into a spiral that does not bode well for him. Left with little, Jake must decide what he values.
