As DI Grace continues her investigation, a set of racially-motivated crimes cross her radar, ending up with a man knifed in the stomach and left for dead. While the widow is beside herself, she has no idea what’s happened. DI Grace opens the investigation and discovers an unusual set of clues that points to a woman of some stature. However, this does not deter DI Grace from doing her job and confronting the suspect!

In the latest Helen Grace procedural, the team investigates a major arson and attempted murder of a former copper turned investigator. It would appear to be a common crime at first, but some of the evidence points to someone with money. This opens new doors, many of which Grace and the team are not used to exploring. Menwhile, the murder of a young woman appears to puzzle those around her, though it was brutal.

A new author for me with a great Scandinavian dark thriller. Journalist Heloise Kaldan falls into a spot of trouble when one of her sources is revealed to have fabricated some key evidence. Heloise may be terminated for it and spirals into a nightmare of her own making. When she begins receiving cryptic notes from a suspected killer, Anna Kiel, Heloise begins to wonder why she’s been targeted. The truth reveals much!

While I have heard of this book before, I never took the time to read it. Now, when a colleague or two requested that I give it a try, I thought that I’d take the plunge. The premise is that we can and do control our own destiny through thoughts and positive assertions. While it might seem a tad far-fetched, what it all boils down to is understanding the Law of Attraction and that we attract what we emit. Hmm...

Rev Jack Brooks tries to acclimate herself to Chapel Croft. She learns that the town remains scared by the many things that have taken place over the years. However, it would seem that there are still issues today, what with all the drama the locals have been gabbing about. Brooks and her daughter both experience the eerie nature of the community, wondering if they ought to return to Nottingham. Then, it gets worse!

Wyatt continues her investigation. The list of suspects keeps changing, as does a motive for such a heinous act. How could anyone want to hurt an 11 year-old girl? Digging deeper, Wyatt soon learns that there is more to the family dynamics than simply squabbling parents whose divorce was only the beginning of the issues. With nothing to go on yet and time slipping away, Wyatt is left to wonder if a body will appear.

After a suicide rocks a small, English town, a new vicar is hired to help get things back on track. However, this is not just any community, but rather one with a steep history of troubles. Back in the time of Queen Mary, a number of Protestants were killeed for not professing their support of the Church, including two ytoung girls. More recently, two girls went missing and spirits haunt the town. What's to come?!

When Jo Wyatt is called out to help with a missing child case, things get complicated from the outset. Not only did this 11 year-old disappear into thin air after returning from the fair grounds, but the family is one Wyatt knows well from years ago. Working a few leads, Wyatt is trying not to let the past slip into the investigation, but the family animosity is high and the leads are few. Someone is hiding truths!

I was asked to read this book by my manager, as she is interested to see how many of those in her chain of command fall within the guidelines of this tome. Gretchen Rubin has used extensive research and analysis to divide people into one of four tendencies, which govern their general decision-making. Whle Rubin introduces the four labels early in the book (and offers the quiz to self-label) there is more to it. Hmm!

Ben delves deeper to help Jude and trips on an old journal that tells the story of a woman and her life of crime in the early 20th century. However, he cannot see how this ties into what might have caused the murder victim to be targeted. There's more to the story, some of it tied directly into the 21st cenury and a secret mission one large company has been running to help the most ruthless dictators. That's not it!

Harvath soon realises that his 'honeymoon' time is over and that he will need to decide what he ought to do next. Summoning some old friends, Harvath begins to learn a little more about this mysterious Chinese figure he saw get out of a taxi. It would seem the Chinese and Russians have been working together to prepare for something in the Arctic, which could have dire consequences for many other, America included.

Ben Hope is home in France, minding his business, when he gets a distressing call. His son, Jude, is being investigated for murder and needs help. Hope rushes to England to do just that, watching his son react poorly to the issue before him, which lands the young man in jail. Hope begins looking into things and discovers the victim was likely targeted for something he was investigating, which includes an old diary!

Scot Harvath has been a busy man for many years, so when he makes a connection that fuels both his professional and personal engines, he is apt to take notice. Spending lengthy time in Norway, Harvath enjoys the chance to unplug. However, while out on a walk, he sees a man in Oslo that he has not seen for many years, a ghost of sorts. This is not someone who can simply be ignored, but taking action may mean trouble.

After an attack on Dewey, he tries to take some R&R, while things heat up in NYC. Terrorists target all entranceways into Manhattan, turning it into an island, while POTUS is set to speak at the UN. Things ramp up from there, as the facility is soon turned into a shooting ground, leaving POTUS exposed. CIA and others scramble to get him exfiltrated, which will include using Dewey, but there is something else coming.

Dewey Andreas has a target on his back, though he is not quite aware. The Iranians have decided to strike on American soil and want the CIA's largest threat out of the way. Their plans are extensive and will require a precise strike. While Andreas bides his time, those in Tehran prepare for what is sure to be a highly visible act of terror, preceded by a show of force like no others. Andreas will have to be ready!

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner offers an insightful look into his life trudging through the Washington swamp. Vowing to offer some great stories without all the deep-seeded thinking, Boehner provides the reader a mix of his life in Congress and growing up in Ohio. Boehner may have supported the GOP, but he repeatedly pokes fun at the current zombie-esque nature of the party. Funny so far!

Two lone survivors in the area prove to be a gold mine to the scientists following the situaton. However, still nothing makes sense. Piles upon piles of bodies in a crevasse, all of whom had increased body temperatures. One of the girls seems almost possessed, chanting the same thing over and over, while the other worries about her sister's health. It's all related to a noise of some sort, but what is it and where?

While the journey to find and advise all the offspring seems to be one that has degress od heroism, there is someone out there who wants to keep the truth from coming out. Many of the 'children' are either killed or kidnapped from their homes by mysterious police officers. The reason is not entirely clear, though it is proving to be a real mystery. Fewer people to inherit ups the amount each will receive. Hmm

Two young girls are living with their community off the grid in Oregon. When they are rushed into an underground cellar as a piercing scream fills the air, they are left to wonder what's going on. Meanwhile, a number of academics and government officials are gathered to survey the damage and try to determine what's been going on. Nothing makes sense from any angle, including the varied destruction taking place. Hmm!!

Miles Cookson has made a fortune in tech, so much that he cannot think how to spend his billions. When he is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he becomes reflective on his past choices, which includes numerous trips to a sperm donor clinic in his youth. Armed with the knowledge that his genetics could pass along this disease to his offspring, he’s determined to locate them. Enter Chloe Swanson, searching for truths.

As Queen of England, Katharine is not only responsible for the country, but also in keeping her family close. When Henry VIII’s health takes a turn, it is only a matter of time before he will perish. Without outwardly speaking of the death of the king, Katharine must prepare herself for what is to come, which includes Edward’s ascension to the throne. However, as a minor, he will need a regent, but who will that be?

While Katharine does have a suitor who has expressed interest, she knows all too well that what King Henry VIII wants, he gets. She reluctantly agrees to the union and tosses herself fully into all it entails, inclduing creating a strong connection to her step-children. As time passes and Katharine begins to get a handle on being a sovereign, she discovers that she can be a help to the Court and country alike.

Kennedy’s free-wheeling ambassadorship has caused many heads to turn, not least of which those in the White House. As Europe teeters on the brink of war, Kennedy cannot help but inject his own views into the mix, not always in line with American foreign policy. While the British are trying to get a handle on the Nazi uprisings on the continent, Kennedy can only watch as European war cannons sound anew. Chaos emerges!

Katharine has found happiness, though it was not an easy task. Her life is going well and she enjoys time spent at Court. However, there are some rumblings and her siblings are making their presence known, not always in the most opportune ways. When Henry VIII loses a few more wives, there is speculation that he may choose another. However, Katharine is not happy when his Royal eyes shift in her direction. Onwards!

As Ronald continues her exploration of the Kennedy Ambassadorship, she keenly draws parallels between the growing unrest in the European Theatre and Kennedy’s lax sentiments to the Nazi power grab. While FDR raged stateside, Kennedy worked to mirror PM Chamberlain’s sentiments that Hitler could be appeased and that fascism was the lesser of two evils (the other communism). American foreign policy was weak and beige.

After being given the position as ambassador, Kennedy began laying claim to the power it earned him. Settling into English society well, Kennedy made sure to use his title to provide him with many ins he might not have achieved on his own. However, as an untrained statesman, Kennedy took matters into his own hands and carved out US foreign policy without input from FDR or the State Department. Headaches for sure!

As Weir begins the final novel in this series, she turns her attention to Katharine Parr, a devout young girl whose family knew death all too well. After her father and infant sister died, Katharine was forced to use her love of family to mature at a young age. Promised marriage to a well-off family, Katharine soon discovered that trouble would not be far away, but she was rewarded. Change is coming in England soon!

Exploring one of America's most polical families, Susan Ronald focusses her attention on the patriarch, Joseph P. Kennedy, and his rise to political power as the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James's (United Kingdom). Kennedy sought power to fuel his self-importance, teaching his children to thrive for the best and never settle for less. Kennedy sought to get FDR to appoint him, a gamble for POTUS to make.

As the sub’s whereabouts continues to baffle, Jack Ryan is put in a position to begin formulating a plan as to how this needs to go down. With some of the Soviet crew obviously at odds with their highers-up, it will take something special to rescue them and not admit to the USSR that the sub has been compromised. Ryan thinks he may have a plan, but it will take stealth and a great deal of patience. Everyone waits!

Deep in the ocean, the Soviets have one of their nuclear submarines inching towards Cuba. However, intel has collected crumbs that this is a week ahead of schedule, which only adds to the tension. Aboard, it would seem some of the crew are seeking to defect, though they are armed to the gills. CIA officer Jack Ryan has been pulled in to help decipher things and his expertise might be useful in making contact.
