Funny story, short chapters allowing for swift, but entertaining reading pleasure. :) I don't understand every play on words, but that's not that bad on a whole, as more than enough to enjoy. I do recommend that you know your way around the best-known references in Fantasy and SF. Bonus points if you know the various French cameos. Be prepared for humour à la Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, ...

This must be the first Bordage novel that causes me so much trouble, even if I like the story itself. It's a thick book (671 pages), but that's not the issue. It's a sloooooow story, agonisingly slow. And pretty dark/depressing. Yet, it shows the viciousness (and kindness) of human nature. However, it's not the man's best, to be honest. Still 83 pages to go, I hope to finish it today.

Not the happiest of stories in se, maybe not that original (yes, another dystopian story, but one where humanism is crucial), but very well written. So far, at least. ;-) Ok, maybe a wee bit too wordy/too long, and yet it adds to the reading experience.

Interesting vision / philosophical thoughts, with western ideas clashing with eastern ideas (mainly Buddhism). Indeed, don't read this for the story, rather for the ideas and criticism on a.o. (mainly) western society and politics at the time, but also today, if you will. The story has a wee bit too many ups-and-downs. Also a bit hard to remember who's who, as characters' roles are only once or so mentioned.

So, as I lost my original copy, I bought a new one (can't wait too long to continue reading when the story/writing is just too good), but don't take it with me on the train out of fear of losing it. :( So yeah, it will take me a while longer to finish it, but so be it.
