Very interesting story about the Latin language and its influence on French soil. And how French came to be and ultimately "replaced" Latin. However, it's an academic read, i.o.w., not your daily French.

Advancing slowly, though the story reads smoothly. Very pertinent themes (ecology, society, life, ...). Many characters, but no who's who! This is really needed, as the focus/pov shifts every x pages and not every character returns as soon as the other => who was this or that character again?

Continuing this book after quite a few weeks (since other books became more "important"). Luckily I remember more or less what it's about. You have to stay focused, as many characters tell their story (focus-shift). Sometimes you may want to browse back to refresh your memory. I do hope to now continue until the end and finish this brick in the coming week, if all goes well.

What a page-turner so far! Very exciting, though one must remain focused.

Third story is more contemporary in setting, less "fantasy". Weird, creepy stuff, especially the ending. It's more horror-like, I'd say.

So far, very good. Even in French, which is also due to the translators' efforts, of course. 2 stories done, 2 to go, the biggest ones.

Food for language lovers (which I am), but the story itself isn't so fluently written. So far, it's an entertaining read, but I'm not totally captivated (yet?).

My first RCW, though the Spin-trilogy (also in French, an omnibus) has been on my TBR-pile for quite some time. Bios, so far ok, not yet that exciting. 241 pages to go.

A tough start, because I remembered only bits of the first book. Serious advice: read both books without (much) delay, because it's one story cut in two. Or be sure to have some detailed notes ready. The writing style is fluid and accessible, though.

Klaar. 3de verhaal beetje ingezakt, maar al bij al zeker de moeite waard. Over spaarzaamheid en gelukkig zijn met wat je hebt. Contrast tss te lande en in de stad wonen, waar ook vaak geroddeld wordt en er nijd en jaloezie is. 4/5

2de verhaal over de Transvaalse oorlog in Zuid-Afrika en hoe jongeren soldaatje speelden, met de gevolgen van dien. 4/5. Op naar het 3de en laatste verhaal: 96 blzn.

1ste verhaal uit: Op de toren. Wat een roman. En dat oude Vlaams/Nederlands, gewoonweg schitterend om lezen. Het maakt het verhaal over de Boerenkrijg en hoe Frankrijk (ratten) België bezette door de Oostenrijkers (vijgen) te verdrijven (en hoe België er niet beter op werd) des te levendiger; nu, het werd ook in de 19de eeuw geschreven. 4/5. Op naar het 2de verhaal: Slachtoffers voor Transvaal (20 blzn.).

August Snieders: Op de toren, over de Boerenkrijg. Verschrikkelijk om te lezen hoe België (toen Zuidelijke Nederlanden) en vooral "Vlaanderen" van het juk van Oostenrijk bevrijdt was, om nadien onder een ander juk te vallen (de Fransen, die zich niets ontziend vanalles eigen maakten en de Belgen het maar moesten ondergaan, al die beestenmanieren, ook door een deel van de eigen bevolking). Wel leuke schrijfstijl. :)

The sylphides, like the plants and trees, communicate through odour & scents. They pave the way when the sylphides pass by. This behaviour reminded me of the Wayreth Forest (Dragonlance). So far, so good. A page-turner. :)
