I'm afraid this one's going back on the TBR shelf. It's not the book's fault. When it came out, apocalyptic fiction hadn't been beaten into the ground. But now, as hard as I try, I can't help feeling like I'm watching an episode of The Walking Dead.

I know that's not fair. But this one's too long for me to stick with. At least for now.

The world seems to be conspiring against me getting much reading time.

But I have read enough to learn that Roland is a little shit.

I meant to read more yesterday, but I got a weird urge to download and play Star Trek Online.

I should have stuck to reading.

Behind on my story ratings, so I'll have to skip a few. But I want to highlight "A Human Stain" by Kelly Robson. So good. Some of the creepiest imagery I've read in a long time.

"Liquid Air" by Inna Effress-4 stars
-A mood piece about neon, creepy dolls and a crumbling marriage.

"Holiday Romance" by Mark Morris-3.5 stars
-Fond memories of visiting the seaside spoil and turn into something else.

"Better You Believe" by Carol Johnstone-4 stars
-As an adrenaline-averse dude who's afraid of heights, this mountain climbing survival story is terrifying.

Interesting things are happening, I guess. But I don't care much about the people they're happening to.

But it's Halloween now. Spooooky.

A character's nickname is not "Dude," but "Dood."

This bothers me for some reason.

Things are finally cohering into a plot. Seriously, I was starting to wonder.

Haunted house workers' soap opera?

So something supernatural will happen eventually, I think...

Not that I'm complaining. This is fun. Just hasn't gone anywhere yet.

-Not my cup of tea, but an interesting idea.

"Rusty Husk" by Evans Light-4 stars
-creepiest one so far. Scarecrows are scary.

"Adam's Bed" by Josh Malerman-4 stars
-my first Malerman. Will definitely read more.

"A Plague of Monsters" by Charles A. Gramlich-2 stars
-Just didn't click with this one.

"The Rye-Mother" by Curtis M. Lawson-4 stars
-Captures the feeling of feeling like an outcast as a kid.

Stayed home sick from work today, so I had some reading time.

Related: How can I be sick again? I just got over this crud. Bah.

I knew this would be creepy, and I'm thrilled. But the narrator's dry humor is a welcome surprise.

Someone's stealing from the dorm. I think things are gonna get real bad real quick.

Behind on reading this week(vacation, illness), but finally really getting into this. And super glad I am. Riveting.
