"At this point it is enough to establish the fact that determinism in itself does not imply any concessions to the materialist standpoint. It does not negate the obvious truth that ideas have an existence of their own, contribute to the emergence of other ideas, and influence one another. It does not deny mental causation and does not reject history as a metaphysical and idealistic illusion."

His argument for determinism could be used, I suppose, to justify the principle of proportionate causality, too.

"A spring’s water is easily muddied; you will never make it clear by trying to, only by leaving it well alone. There is no better remedy for disorder than to let it run its course; it will then disappear on its own."
That's good advice. Same with knowing your bad (or your good) day, and overcoming character flaws associated with your nation.

"The only things that shouldn’t be disclosed in a friendship are your faults; were it possible, these shouldn’t even be disclosed to yourself. But another rule of life can be helpful here: know how to forget."
How does confession work with this maxim?

Saint Lichtenbergs last comment about Pastor Heufer, who was anxious about his age, cracked me up.

His analysis of conservativism is sound as far as the application of economic laws goes, but would better be called cronyism. Feudalism and monarchism have little to do with it.

Gaydosh suggests that letting Saint Bernhard Lichtenberg stay in Berlin and not assigning him to another, more calm diocese was a signification action already. Generally, I am pleased with her book, and I imagine so is God.

Quitting there. There are no footnotes and insufficient sources, especially for his more interesting claims, and he commits some silly mistakes like claiming absolute authority for the English Kings (what about the Magna Charta?). I also dislike the American Exceptionalism.

Too bad, the subject matter was interesting.
