Not sure what to think yet. Not having read Heideggers "Sein und Zeit", I feel like I am missing out on a lot.

The information on thunderstorms was very good.

I think my biggest problem with this book is that I don't like any of the characters. Other than that, it's great.

Muslim slaves, including women, worked the sugar mills in Outremer. They copied the technology from the Muslims, but theirs weren't worked by slaves.

Should keep the Battle of Nicodia in mind. Sounds interesting.

Heraldry was imported from Outremer to the Balkans. So much for the crusades having had no cultural impact, as a certain historian says. (This shouldn't sound so condescending, I just forgot his name.)

Useful and fascinating descriptions of battles in Outremer.

Since the Fall of Rome, no slaves served on galleys. Only the Hospitallers used "galley serfs", whatever that should mean.

If my eyes don't deceive me, Nicolle claims that courtly romance was influenced by muslim ideals, whereas graeco-roman views on romance stressed sexual appetite. Not sure what to make of that. Quite a take.

I really like this so far.

I liked Frank Wu's story. Not quite satisfied with the ending, it felt rushed, and the story itself was too preachy, but it was a very human story, in a good way.

The story by Adam Ford was hilarious, I only wished for some kind of resolution. Still, really good.
