this has started off a little slow so far!

I find it so interesting reading outdated nonfiction. Seeing the notion of plate tectonics dismissed by someone so clearly well-informed and smart gives me a lot of respect for human growth and innovation.

I have read The Case for Reparations before and it still resonates very well, especially as I took a class last sem on the same history. Elements of the book as a whole have felt a bit repetitive—factor of the compilation. I think this is counteracted by the interest of Coates looking back at his own career. Haven’t gotten to it yet but I cannot stop thinking about Epilogue: The First White President.

every time I read that FUCKING letter from Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Woolf I have this deeply visceral reaction that’s a mix between “this is how I’ve felt about everyone I’ve liked ever” and “oh my god I want someone to feel that way about me”

this is really addictive!

interesting but... not as good as the movie? it’s like, all that’s good about the movie, plus a lot of very unfunny stuff.

honestly? the biggest reviewing misconception is that it's fun to write rant reviews. i may get a perverse sort of joy out of tearing apart a book that made me really angry but it is SO much more entertaining writing positive reviews and sharing my joy
