Cress is tolerable, almost, dare I say, likable, absent Thorne. Point of fact, all the women are okay when they are separated from their true LUVS and just being humans.

Katniss Everdeen is an effective leader/symbol of an uprising because the people know her; or at least, they knew a version of her via the Hunger Games. If she had just popped up out of nowhere, however, and said, "So you think you want a revolution?" people wouldn't have paid her any attention. I like Cinder; she deserves more than this "throw it at a wall; see if it sticks" plot.

This is due back in four days, so time to start skimming, I mean reading, uh.,.yeah, skimming.

The narrative is suddenly trying to go all Hunger Games or Red Rising, addressing social justice issues, etc. But the series has spent too much time on an armada of adolescent 'ships, and there's not enough world-building to support deeper themes.

I'm finding Lizzie's dialect really hard to follow this time around. Weird, because with the first book, I enjoyed the juxtaposition between Eliza and Lizzie's voices. Now, I'm just glad to be done with each round of Lizzie's POV.

Even a continuous, forcibly applied course of antifungals will merely destroy most of the mycelium, not eradicated it from the body completely. Without continued application for years, it would always come back again. Besides, I have a hard time seeing our for-profit medical system paying for years of antifungals. I mean, the assholes won't even pay for some people's insulin.

The protagonist is an arrogant little shit, conveniently a big of dumb ass when it suits the plot, but I'm finding this utterly engrossing.
Probably because I don't read a lot of thrillers, so I'm not that jaded by the genre.

Gory murders! And yet, I'm still not into this. Maybe because I read it just before going to bed and I'm already sleepy?

Scarlet has become more tolerable, except, that is, in the presence of Wolf. Nearly all the women are mo-beta absent their true wuvs. Except Cress. She always sucks.

CressThorne is sooooo irritating; I just skim their chapters looking for Cinder stuff. Basically, I'm here for Cinder.

I seem to be in both a book and movie slump. The culmination of the movie slump was The Quiet Place, easily the STUPIDEST and most over-rated and rage-making movie I've seen in ages. As for books, even sequels to good books are boring me. So far this just doesn't have the "oomph" of its predecessor.

I'm not overwhelmed by the rationale behind Winter's mental illness; i.e., that it's self-induced because she won't use her powers. Also, the introduction of yet another white, hetero romance is all manner of Meh. But this is supposed to be one of the better books in the series. *Reads on...*

I decided that Shadow's ordeal on the tree is a metaphor for reading this book: unnecessarily long, punctuated by pretty hallucinations, but entirely pointless.

After that he had more or less stopped reading. You could not trust fiction. What good were books, if they couldn't protect you from something like that?

Well, Tom's still a naive dumb-ass and Hester is now a total psycho. Of the two, I'd prefer Hester's psycho to Tom's Too-Stupid-To-Live any day.

It showed Pennyroyal, sword in hand, fighting off a horde of savage Huntsmen, while at his side a beautiful young woman expired prettily. It was only after she had stared at the picture for a minute or more that Hester noticed the martyred girl wore an eye patch and had a fetching little scar on her cheek.
