Compelling idea that the conflict between social hierarchies and networks cause major events in human history! When Ferguson introduced the topics of his previous books, the Illuminati and the history of the Rothschild banks, I thought -- I've got to send a copy of this book to so and so...

Lots of promise. Looking forward to seeing how well this thesis develops. It promises to have strong predictive value.

Vacation is a great time for catching up on reading. :)

I'm really enjoying the story interspersed with labor theory and speculative economics. Guess I'm a Doctorow fan now.

I haven't read Doctorow's fiction before -- he intersperses educational segments about labor organization and futurist extrapolations about the economy that are interesting, but definitely flawed in specifics. For instance, saying that a person could work Mechanical Turk jobs 10 hours a day and make as much as a senior manager at a US-based shipping company.

No policy. No data about issues. No opinions about controversial issues. Jimmy Carter seems like a nice man, but this book helps me understand neither the geopolitics of his presidency nor his thought processes.
