I flagged the review as plagiarism and reported him.

Okay, there's much about this book to celebrate.
However, we're getting to the crux of it now and there's a plot element here that is reminding me a lot of both Hide and These Fleeting Shadows. It didn't work for me in either of those cases and it's not really working for me here. The thing is none of the synopsis indicates this is where these stories would go, so there's no actual way to avoid it.

I'm so tempted to DNF this.
It's not the writing. I love Chavez's writing.
I am just not connecting to this story at all.
Time to go view the reviews, see what others have to say.

This is thoughtfully written.
I like how Chupeco doesn't dumb down their characters just because they're kids and the target audience is kids.
That's something I always appreciate when I see it in Middle Grade books.

Also, Levi would definitely be getting into The Midnight Society if this is the first story he was telling!!!

I thought I knew what direction this was going in, but now I'm not sure.
The Jessica storyline has me confused on that...

We have an inherited, purportedly-haunted house tale and the boy involved has just made a new friend who has a ghost hunting team!

One of my go-to YouTube channels at the moment is Adam Mark Explores. The tone of this novel matches that recent obsession perfectly.
I've heard this starts strong and ends...not as.
I'm hoping it is more of a solid experience overall for me!
