I love how Goodman never wastes any time kicking off her stories.

In this one, we're following 2 perspectives, Amy and Liz. Liz is a high school newspaper reporter digging around into the recent murder of Amy's BFF and her boyfriend. This is a scenario that I am always down for!

I hope we figure out what is going on with Grey and Lia Mara soon. I mean, I have theories, but I need someone to spell it out for me!

I have loved the way this has played out so far.
That first chapter...wow, that's how you start, Alice Feeney!

I was surprised by the perspective shift, but think I am going to get some good insight with that.

Oh, yayeee! A different perspective. I was beginning to worry it was all Tycho and Jax Angsty-Love for the entire novel. I love them, but I'm happy to be switching it up a bit! And, Grey!!!

Love the discussion between Mother Abigail and Nick and Ralph about what the Dark Man is. I tabbed the hell out of that section. Also, Abigail mentioning the Shine.

I couldn't recall 100% if I had read this before, but after reading the first two chapters, I definitely believe I have. Most likely as a tween. It's fun revisiting -- some things are very familiar, others not so much. But I love the beautiful storytelling voice of this narrator. This will be perfect for my road trip tomorrow!

Immediately invested in being back in this world.
Kemmerer's writing style is just so easy to lose yourself in.

The writing is very fluid and easy to read, I am just not feeling connected yet. I'm not disliking it, I just wish I were more engaged. I'd love to finish this at some point this week

Where is the religious horror I was hoping for? I mean it's fine, just the cover and concept doesn't really match the tone/story...

I continue to be impressed with the development of the characters in this story. The relationships of the siblings, it's beautifully done. Raw and real, that is the real success for this novel!

This is def Social Horror, or even more Literary Horror, then the cover may first lead you to believe. But well worth the read. I'm really enjoying the themes examined -- feminine rage with a twist.

Now that I have a bit of distance from Kerry, I'm not so annoyed. I have other things to be intrigued about besides her stupidity. LOL

I hope I stop eye-rolling soon. It's making this hard to read...LOL

I am loving these characters, and even though it's way more of a fever dream narrative style than I tend to love, I am still really enjoying it. The characters feel so real, made even better by the excellent audiobook narration!

I'm really enjoying the audiobook, which features three narrators, one for each of our siblings/perspectives. IMO, they're very believable as siblings, both in how they talk to one another and in how they think about each other. I'm excited to get further in this one!
