Very funny listening to two whole lectures on an earth shattering controvery, in this case the first word, that you had never heard about yet the lecturer assumes every one must know.

I have finished my yearly challenge to read all the Choice award winners for the year, Here are my results:

1 Star: 4 books
2 Star: 3 books
3 Star: 4 books
4 Star: 4 books
5 Star 2 books

This is still something worth doing, as reading outside of your comfort zone/echo chamber is important IMHO, but this was a rough year. I had 2 DNF which is a record for me.

So I have finished all the winners on the 2021 Good Choice awards with a caveat this year if a book was the second or more in a series I just read the book in that genre with the most votes that wasn't instead of reading all the previous books in the series before I read the winner. I am very glad I did this self imposed challenge again. breaking out of your comfort zone is important. Worth trying.

Reading Oscar Wilde is like reading a 19th century Josh Whedon in book form. Clever quips and dialogue but that seems to be the point of the books, the clever turn of phrases. He is impressed with himself and his witticisms and whats everyone to know.

For the first time last year, I decided to read all the Choice Awards winners as a way to break out of my comfort zone and to read alternate POVs and expose myself to different genres. I believe this was a success and I will be doing it from now on. I read some garbage but also read some amazing things I would of never been exposed to otherwise. Everyone should break out of their comfort zones from time to time IMHO.

Daniel is starting My Hero Academia, Vol. 1
Reading this because two of my daughters are obsessed with the anime based off this manga and I don't have time to watch the anime. Also Its a book outside of my comfort zone so it fulfills too of my current goals.

Daniel is starting The Renaissance, the Reformation and the Rise of Nations
This has gotten better though a few of his statements are a bit misleading: For example the furrow system was used primarily in England while it was used in Northern Europe it wasn't the only system. The lecturer does this frequently generalizing when he probably shouldn't. That being said his knowledge of the Reformation onward is much, much better.

- The lecturer is at times just wrong. His facts are inaccurate.
- Lacks context, this is high school level overview with the lack of insight of that level.
- He knows nothing about the conquest and discovery of the new world, but what he learned in High School,
-A europe-centric view that fails even to consider the broader Mediterranean much less global pressures.

This is a book of compiled notes written by Hawking's before his death and put together by his estate. Each chapter answers one of the great questions. Interesting stuff and his answers are what you expect from a scientist

Comments I've made while going through this book:
- "Citation Needed" multiple, multiple times.
- "That's not F'ing true"
- "I need to look that up". Spoiler: Looking up the study shows he took the absolute extreme view of the study or misrepresented it.
- "That's a discredited study"
- "Holy crap how can you imply that with that data."
- "How many pages do i have left?"

-This is Nihilistic Apocalypse porn.
-Things that the author obviously didn't study:
Economics,History,Sociology,anthropology.
-Author comes off as the smug, typically self-loathing, guilt ridden woke white kid with a liberal education who makes sure to tell you how aware he is.
- The science is scary enough without going into hyperbole, yet he does this constantly.
