Rabbit {Paint me like one of your 19th century gothic heroines!} is on page 228 of 765 of The Black Swan
This book takes the cake on racism. Breeding slaves like horses, and saying that slaves are animals not humans. Because bible said so. I know that was the common belief back then, but still. Just wow. Still a good book tho.

Just finished cleaning out my bookshelves: putting some of the keepers in storage in the garage. Some being swapped/donated, etc. :)

Rabbit {Paint me like one of your 19th century gothic heroines!} is on page 140 of 552 of Backlash: The Undeclared War Against Women
This book depresses and angers me on how little things have changed since the early 90's when this was published. This book is still extremely relevant, which is sad.

"You hear feminists talk, and the last ten, twenty years you hear women talking about fucking men rather than be fucked, to be crass about it. It's kind of unattractive, however liberated and emancipated it is. It kind of fights the whole wife role, the whole child-bearing role. Sure you got your career and your success, but you are not fulfilled as a woman." -Adrian Lyne

Yeah I'm not watching any of Adrian Lyne's movies. "He had already made up his minds about unmarried career women. 'They are sort of overcompensating for not being men. It's sad, you know, because it kind of doesn't work.' "

"In the 50's, as film critic Molly Haskell wrote 'There were not only fewer films about emancipated women than in the thirties or forties, but there were fewer films about women.' While women were relegated to mindless how-to-catch-a-husband movies, men escaped to womanless landscapes."

Two of the supporting characters is an interracial lesbian couple. I love how race and sexuality are portrayed in this book, so far.

I think I'm becoming desensitized to YA. I feel like I've read this before. It's all the same themes. I can't even be mad anymore. It's boring me now.
