listening to the audio book, mostly while commuting. very interesting so far to hear about the slow progress toward discovery of the mechanism of genetic transfer.

very interesting ch on the modern covenant and the changes wrought. he seems to dismiss trad religion as pretty much a thing of the past, which seems overly simplistic. looking forward to the next ch on humanism.

Long first chapter lays out possibilities to be explored through the rest of the book. Author points out how difficult it will be to predict what the _results_ will be by 2100 by comparing to things 100 years ago (or even 25 in the case of the internet), but makes a case for the _direction_ things are likely to proceed.

loving all the desc of how he will go about getting enough dirt, water, air and whatever else he will need to survive 4 years.

We study history not to know the future but to widen our horizons, to understand that our present situation is neither natural nor inevitable, and that we consequently have many more possibilities before us than we imagine."
