Good stories from The Two Cathedrals and from 18th and Potomac (and other episodes).

Already smiling at the familiar sound of arguments just in the intro, eg if there is some "smallest" particle that exists in the measuring of lengths, yielding some number of pieces, couldn't the given length be divided in half first & then into that many pieces, yielding twice as many pieces of half the size, so smaller than the smallest theoretical piece? Et cetera. :-)

So many good memories from the series contained here, effectively relayed. A strong reminder of how many teary moments there are in the series...so good.

Enjoyed the anecdotes about main character actors auditioning for their roles. :-)

So good. The piece "Writing Assignment" put tears in my eyes. It's a reminder (in part) about what amazing people teachers can be.

Continue to be impressed by the thoughtfulness of these essays. So sad that the piece about Trump and his likely voters from 2016 still feels so exactly relevant.

So far, one insightful essay after another.

Noteworthy connection to Turanny of Merit at this page: "the underprivileged are priced out of the dental treatment system yet perversely held responsible for their dental condition."

The 2014 piece on Celebrate Freedom Week, mandated by the Kansas state legislature, is hopeful in the sense that the featured classroom teachers were clearly trying to satisfy the letter of the requirements without uncritically incorporating the underlying ideology.

Killer sentence: "Legislators who need civics education passing laws about civics education: it's the kind of irony that threatens democracy."

How can we be going back to the incompetence of this buffoon? It boggles the mind.

Wow, that 3d essay about her mom being a Hooters girl with morals was moving.

Page 1 is a non-0 amount into the book, with the intro in Roman numerals :-) That intro makes the rest of the book sound intriguing, reminding me of Caste and perhaps The Sum of Us, but with obvious differences (ie race does not appear to be one of the big issues in this book, more the class differences).

Every page is aggravating, showing the cynicism of R lawmakers through the first 20 years of this century (and in many cases earlier than that). SMH.

Strong arguments against the current system of competitive college admissions.

Already sickened by examples of deceptive and cynical politicking, 11 pages into the text. Will have to see if i can make it through this one, it might be hard to take while we contemplate what more like this is probably coming next year. :-/

Helpful discussion of how humans can cooperate in much larger numbers than other species by using stories, such as stories of religions like Judaism and Christianity, allowing people to feel a shared connection of trust without actually knowing much about each other.

She's really working on getting the anti-development protest over the top, now that she's had her dream conversations with young versions of her friend and her husband.

Grace has gotten in deep now, after deciding against leaving the island and opting to try to help figure out who was behind trying the remove Cristina.

This is feeling a bit like Remarkably Bright Creatures if the octopus had been an alien being. And it also reminds me of the early pages of Harry Potter. :-)
