Well, that was an intense first 50 pages! Did I really expect anything less from King??

This is becoming a far creepier read than anticipated. This book is a constant surprise!

I'm apparently beginning all the books today!

This is absolutely nothing like the books I would usually pick up and yet it is strangely alluring. I was sold by the Emily Bronte connections but the story itself is slowly drawing me in, despite it being the complete opposite of what I imagined.

Mention Emily Bronte and I am there!

"Grief is the worst kind of torture and it never ends. You have dibs on that dungeon for the rest of your life."

This is starting to get seriously creepy and messed up!!

That first chapter was not messing about!!

That was just too soft and pure 😭😭😭

This was a teenage favourite so I'm hoping I don't sour the fond memories of my frequent rereads by revisiting it now.

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange.

Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could."

"How will we ever survive this if we can't survive each other?"

This is super dense and the epitome of a slow burn but I'm seriously loving it!

"I am rather of the opinion that in England a gentleman's dreams are his own private concern. I fancy there is a law to that effect and, if there is not, why, Parliment should certainly be made to pass one immediately! It ill becomes another man to invite himself into them."

This had such an ominous tone from page one. I'm so intrigued and so creeped out!

This cover is the most singularly beautiful thing I have ever laid my eyes on!

I'm a little sad to see that four years have passed between the events occuring here and those in book two but am intrigued as to how the world has altered, in this time.

The atmosphere and tension of this is so great. It also helps that I'm listening along with the soundtrack playing the in the background.
