Okay, wow, clever world building. I like how much they care about this Dokimi celebration. And the narrative seems serious for a mermaid novel. Yay! Just the info-dumping is too heavy till now. Hopefully, the book will get better as I read on. Definitely excited for it! :)

It's dragging a LOT in the later parts.

I love, love, love the writing. It is crisp; it is neat; it is TRUE. I could read pages upon pages of the most mundane stuff (and there's quite a lot already) when executed in this writing. It is sooo readable.

"She tastes like nectar and salt. Nectar and salt and apples. Pollen and stars and hinges. She tastes like fairy tales. Swan maiden at midnight. Cream on the tip of a fox's tongue. She tastes like hope."

That is exactly what this story is like.

"Was there another life she was meant to be living? At times she felt a keen certainty that there was--a phantom life, taunting her from just out of reach.A sense would come over her while she was drawing or walking, and once she was dancing slow and close with Kaz, that she was supposed to be doing something else with her hands, with her legs, with her body. Something else. Something else. Something else.
But what?"

This is the first book I've begun reading on a Kindle. The experience is different, but definitely worth it. As for the book, it is like a gentle hand slowly nudging my half-shut eyes awake. It's making me woke, guys. It's like a guide on how to live.

'I think of futility, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about futility?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her.
'Because, Adjunct, it is futile.'

I like this guy.

Lots of proper nouns I don't know about, but the story seems promising. We have magic and mages and wars and deaths. Sign me up!
