You had hundreds of people living in Emond's Field, and the Dark One somehow decided to choose the most bland cis het men as the targets of his Fades who somehow fail at capturing these stupid lads at the last moment? Beats me. You can do better, Dark One.

This book does not need 800 pages. Stop dragging it so long. 🤷‍♀️

My God, too many similar-sounding lazy names, but the world-building is really interesting until now!

What I'm hungry for in this book are more emotive details that fill my imagination with vividness; apart from that, quite a brilliant, fast-paced adventure until now!

Marvelous writing. The prose itself is such a delight. So rich and full and immersive.

Till now, it's been quite exhilarating and fast-paced. Has that addictive quality where it's hard to put down. But lacks substance and depth, I think. It feels as if it has been boiled down to the formula of action, action, tension, tension, without enough emotional exploration. And really we still don't know why the hell Jack is where he is.
I will say, the cultural atmosphere it creates is quite awesome though.

Oof, this writing is just glorious. So real. I can actually believe it's all happening, and it's a bloody mess, and I care. Also, I've been peeling my eyes for good descriptions because my own writing needs to get better in that sphere, and one of the descriptions in these last few pages made me audibly squeal. So good. Mmm.
