I'm surprisingly enjoying this book a lot more than I expected to. It's like if Murderbot had substance and wasn't just 50% unfunny attempts at relatability.

It's got the whole "disaffected sentient robot trying to find meaning in the world" schtick going but actually explores that in a really deep way through a variety of situations in a futuristic apocalyptic setting. It's so rich thematically too.

I really like this so far! I love Roman history and this setting is using so much of it, more than any other fantasy I've read before. I plan to write something like this, but I've always wanted to read something like this too.

- this is a better book than the last two. Edith is still incredibly boring, but I'm finding some of the other characters interesting for the first time.
- the plot is…not good. it is better than the last two books, but that's not saying much. it's extremely repetitive and bland.
- the worldbuilding in this book is the best we've seen since book 1 (though not as good as 1)
