what an intro, goddamn

read the intro + navidson record introduction so really more like 20 some odd pages in. the very structure and framing of this book coupled with the reader practically being encouraged to add their own footnotes just makes reading this such an endlessly engaging practice. cant wait to experience the rest of this again

giving this another shot at a slower pace, i absolutely loved it already but think it demands a slower reading this time around

spacetime-warp shenanigans now, this book just keeps getting better and better

extremely unique vignette-novel of southern gothic dread and completely out there, hallucinatory magical realism suffused perfectly with dry, half-conscious gonzo comedy. as i've long thought, munly really is a songwriter with a novelist's heart. im going to absolutely love this about as much as i love his music i think

vivaciousness of imagery that feels borderline preternatural, subversions of convention that feel gentler and more absolutely organic than possibly any other work of experimental fiction ive read, unbelievable subtle beauty in character dynamics that roll off each other like waves and a decent heaping of english dry humor to boot. this book feels alive, like it has a goddamn pulse. holy shit.

it sure feels like virginia woolf is attuned to the secret DNA of existence ive been trying to figure out myself for the past quarter century

this is one of those "take several minutes to just absorb a single page" type books. so lovely
