hasnt been very long but im thinking about this book again so gonna do another dive. hobo vampire junkies forever

ishmael's voice is instantly captivating and the prose is unbelievably wonderful. i fucking love how this starts with like 45 pages of sailing/whale portraits and random tangential quotes about whales, i can already tell im going to love this book

finally tackling this white whale lets fucking goooooooo

this is structurally wonderful, and seems marked largely by the kind of phantasmagoric subjective storytelling i love but in a considerably much more low key way than im used to. this is a treat.

I don't even know what planet this is taking place on at this point lol

that was one of the greatest chapters i've read in anything ever wtf
