Mesmerizing first chapter!

Some truly great moments... teared up at the end of part 1.

But a lot of fast forwarding in this early section as well.

And again, IV in Songs for a Colored Singer reminded me of Wallace Stevens Domination of Black. North and South published in 1946, Domination first published in 1916. By no means a copy. The two poems are nothing alike. But the rhythm took me back to that old favorite.

The James Gunn sequel to previous 'Stars' stories here is the worst of the three, but with a cool start. But man, once Harry and Lisa appear, the story takes a hard dive into what might be one of the dumbest conclusions to a story I've ever read.

Witnessing human behavior from this innocent, almost alien perspective, is illuminating and scary.

Ian MacLeod's Murs. Innocents got the job done, but underwhelmed. Ithaca, I admit, had me engaged despite it's expositional style, but then the ended just felt mean spirited and overly 'gotcha'.

I might be reading too many books at the same time. Is that possible? This is great so far, if subdued.

A great start and some beautiful passages - Charlie always amazes me with his details and the beauty in the terrible

Sauchope Links Caravan Park - 'he grew old not thinking of himself' - I loved this poem about living in the moment versus regret versus hope

Tunnels was a lot of good light fun 3 stars.
Against the Stars - a terrible embarrassment of a story, sequel to the previously issued bad In Our Stars. - 1 star!

Not earthshattering, but not a waste of time either, which most books of this type are.

Little Exercise - another excellent one.

Roosters - is that a reference to Of Mere Being by Wallace Stevens - for that matter, maybe this came first, I'll have to look that up. Excellent poem. I could read it 20 more times and still be unpacking it. Is it roosters as humankind? Roosters as men. And Roosters as roosters?

After a slow start, this court intrigue potboiler is very entertaining.

Physically starred in my copy: Cirque d'Hiver, Florida, Jeronimo's House, that's three of the last four poems I've read since my last update. I will absolutely re-read this entire book.

Ghostweight okay, very dense and difficult read. Digit Rites entertaining, The boneless one had tons of potential but ended blandly. Dying Young also had tons of potential and ended blandly. Year's most above average maybe...
