Chapter 99 - The Doubloon. Another very Shakespearean chapter. Beautiful to the ear, but I can't say I've got any idea what it was trying to convey.
Less than 200 pages to go. Planning to finish this reread before the end of the year.

Stronger - Apparently the Minotaur story of the cover. Very meh. Seemed very promising at the start, great opening, but got boring in the middle, and then delivered an extremely unsatisfying ending. Not the worst Parker story I've read, just the second worst.

The history of psychology is an absolute horror story isn't it.
Meanwhile, who knows where I really am in this book, the page counts kindle is telling me don't match up to any of the editions on GR, and the math doesn't even work for the percentages it's reporting either, how do you screw that up?

Well, 35 pages with Eric and he hasn't committed or confessed to any rapes or murders so far. Baldwin's probably just trying to lure me into a false sense of security though, still got half the book to go.

New pov character. I suppose it's too much to ask for this one to get through the book without confessing to some kind of hate crime or other atrocity.

Baldwin writes the most bizarre sex scenes.

Vivaldo tells us another dirty secret, not that I expect him to top that first one. So far the writing is great. The characters more superficially pleasant, but far more horrible human beings than in Giovanni's Room once you get to know them. These chapters are so long though... no place to rest.

not exactly a page turner

TFW somebody's review really makes you want to read the book, but all your usual responses, downloading a sample, adding it to the price tracker, whatever, are all pointless, because you have, in fact, owned that book for years, and you know damn well it's not getting a slot on the dance card any time soon...

Wow, Vivaldo, you're a pos. It's like somebody told Baldwin David and Giovanni were too likable, so he decided to dial it up a bit.
