it’s not that it’s a bad book it’s just. a little boring. i feel like both characters kinda chalk up insane paranormal coincidences too much bc the authors don’t want to reveal their identities this early but it’s to the detriment of the narrative

yeah i’m dropping this lol. they straight up have a mammy character in this book set in the 90s.... the first vampire is an older woman whose attack scene is choreographed like a sexual assault of the mc...... this sucks the moon out of the sky

the fact that i’m almost 90% thru this book and the only Big Thing that’s happened is she got menaced by fbi agents and met david’s parents..... this book is just a lecture on choices in a trench-coat

this is also the most INSANELY toxic f/f pairing but that’s barely addressed!!! hate this

coming in hot in the last 25% of the book, we have terrible ace aro muslim rep and deadnaming a trans girl!!! horrific!!!

i am. so tired of everyone talking about Choice. like can someone make an active decision and cause something substantial to happen other than elena lukewarmly deciding to heal someone or her and freddie fighting

there is nothing more annoying that how like. this book is so committed to making this a character driven novel but so little happens that An Event that creates tension is literally elena not doing anything and fadil getting mad that she doesn’t talk abt anything else other than. the voices. cmon

“you’ve wasted weeks agonizing over what you should do but you haven’t bothered to ask yourself what you can do.” oh my godddd we are far too into this book for this to be the first Big Thing that happens. like the stakes are so high but the characterization and actual events are so minimal

the way fadil is written drives me up a wall. like having him be “gullible” for believing maybe elenas powers are divine and having him juxtaposed as the naive one in comparison to freddy like. the author must’ve only seen the “predestination” part in the islam wikipedia page and not the “whoever kills one person it is as if he has killed all of mankind” that would’ve made fadil. more fleshed out

man the way the plot just. drags......

i feel like. the actual driving plot is rather weak so far for me being a third thru the book. and. the thing about fadil being Gullible for thinking maybe allah was talking to elena like. cmon
