hiver, 1872 rue bienville is easily the worst goddamn chapter in this audiobook. i have the speed up to 1.25x and the narrators “slow drawl” for this characters perspective is so difficult to listen to. there’s no problem when it’s celine, but the speed of this character combined with the like. rasping slowness means i can barely understand what’s being said in the core narration

the policewoman she called to talk about the kidnapping telling her that she made up the kidnapping is like..... not how the police work at ALL? she’d need to at least collect a statement it doesn’t matter if the policewoman just thinks she slept with some random dude

the transitions between scenes in this book are suuuuper harsh. like we just went from modern times to the 16th century with half a sentence

it’s good that it’s a book abt a mexican american teenager but uhhhhh the constant R Slur is really throwing me this came out in 2014 teenagers don’t... talk like that anymore.... for a reason
