Writing is a funny thing to do.

The first two essays had me skeptical, but I'm starting to believe the hype.

This kind of feels like the genesis (or early incarnation) of the New Yorker voice, and I know she wrote for them (I think I know).

Two chapters of bathroom observations. Maybe the great American novel isn't trying to tell us anything grand or meaningful.

I love how clear and concise Russel's writing is. This little book is a gem.

The combination of uneventful office narrative and extensive footnotes makes me think DFW must have been a fan.

Bernhard is a new favorite. I'm looking forward to the arrival of The Lime Works.

Suicide in a clearing. Take my hand as we plunge down the Heidegger rabbit-hole.

Last night I dreamt that books were drowning themselves. They had left suicide notes in the form of their own water-logged pages, bookmarked at apposite passages.

Walking in circles, muttering a series of numbers underneath my breath - that's what I'll be doing when this is all over.

Now that Ulises is missing there almost seems to be a plot forming... almost.

Poetry is not really my thing, but so far there have been a few poems in here that I really liked. Stevens may be the proper gateway for me.

"Everything stated or expressed by man is a note in the margin of a completely erased text. From what's in the note we can extract the gist of what must have been in the text, but there's always a doubt, and the possible meanings are many."

I really don't know what to make of this book, and yet I love it so far. I don't know why I feel this way, it doesn't really do the usual stuff books I love tend to do, and there hasn't been much forward motion plot-wise since the various interviews began (unless it's all going on beneath the surface). I'm not holding out hope that the ending will pull the curtain back. I just hope I don't lose interest before then.

I'm enjoying the structure of this, and wondering if I'll ever find out anything substantial about Bolano or Lima.

This is the second book about a rag-tag group of artists or hipsters or pseudo-intellectuals in Latin America wandering around doing not much at all since the start of 2015 (my reading, not their wandering) and so far this is about a million times better than that other one *cough*HOPSCOTCH*cough*.
