World setting is all over the place.

Kojiki folk tales meets Meiji Restoration era with a magic system influenced by Waterbenders of the Last Airbender TV series and politics that resemble state of censorship, propaganda and media darkness currently present in North Korea. But there are TV's and foldable iPads.

Really interesting. Just all over the place.

Mitsuki and Mamoru are compelling characters.

"I point out truths when I see them, Brightlord Sadeas. Each man has his place. Mine is to make insults. Yours is to be in-sluts."

Somewhere a 12 year old laughed at this.

Oh, that's one atrociously looking map. I... I feel attacked!
But, there's a character called Matsuda Mamoru, so everything is forgiven.

"Lord of the Rings ripoff" - they said.

First of all - no, it isn't.
Or, are we supposed to reference Tolkien for every of teenage delinquents who runs away from their village when faced with immediate danger, all while chased by shadowy horseman and accompanied by a ranger...

And suddenly, like being LotR ripoff is somehow a bad thing? :D

Cures aching joints for a good month after you eat it, and sometimes let you see when friends were going to visit by letting you read the shapes of the sound."

Probably one of the stupidest things I have ever read from one of the worst writers that ever walked the earth.

Merely a humble observer who, when able, speaks on behalf of the tongue-tied multitudes otherwise known as the commonality, or, more precisely - the rabble.

My meager gift, therefore, lies in the communication of an aesthetic framework upon which most artists hang themselves."

Kara, you see that cover? Of your book, yes? That's Nefertiti. Second reason why I'm here. First one being Hatshepsut. Two of most capable and vicious rulers. Ever.
I'm fine with you showing Cleopatra down my throat, but damn it, focus on Egypt. Please.

"Jojo Moyes: Still Me" - This story still goes? This series STILL exists?

Also, Tiffany Haddish and Chrisy Tiegen, who says you can't be in the company of literacy magnitudes such as Sarah J. Maas, V.E. Schwab, Becky Abertelli and Tomi Adeyemi?

Me? I can't wait to read Sarah Andersen's Herding Cats.
At least she's consistent.

Ah, that silent, infuriating, unnecessary rage in you when you see that someone doesn't understand your favourite book.

To hell with beauty of subjectivity!
Subjectivity be damned!

So many great books spent...
It's literally written for them. All they had to do is: think!

"Why his heart, m'lord? Could a kidney work? Or maybe a lymph node?"
"Because... well... I need to know he's dead."
"Oh, so my word isn't good enough for you? I tell you someone is dead, and you would doubt that? My lord, I find your lack of confidence very insulting."
"I will need his heart for..."
He almost said "personal reasons", but realized that sounded a bit creepy.

"A fine errand for a Tuesday, m'lord!
But, uh. Just so there's no misunderstanding, do you mean, like, kill him, and then bring you his heart?
Because I was fairly certain that when you kill someone, their heart stops beating, you know, like cause-and-effect thing."

And here's our Baldrick.

"My name," said the goat, "is Gustave, not Gus. Get it straight, Pooboy."
"What did you..."
"That's your name, genius, As in the boy who scoops up my poo."

You know, from any animal living in a barn - that pretty much sums up their perspective on us.

Also, I choose that this goat speaks in Rowan Atkinson's voice.

Dear GR,

It's a choice for MOST POPULAR. Not for the BEST books on Goodreads, and certainly not the best of the year soon behind us.

Woe to us if these are the best we had. Woe to us.

P.S. Congrats!

Sincerely,

Reader

After finishing Robert Jordan's WoT, P. V. Brett's Demon Cycle;
finally continuing with Steven Erikson's Malazan, as well as Joe Abercrombie;
and while waiting for G.R.R. Martin and Pat Rothfuss;
all while ditching that Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series (bastard asked for more money for that crap, lol);
it's great seeing Mark Lawrence finally coming through on Serbian Fantasy books market.
Also, Ed McDonald.

"IT WAS A PLEASURE TO BURN.

It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed.

With his brass nozzle in his fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in his head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history."

"For even should we fail - should we fall -" oh, cut the crap.

Be gone already with your vomit-inducing, ever-mysterious omnipotence and horribly false pathos, you boring excuse of a flying crocodile.

20 books I've been waiting for this.

Once again: I can't signify enough on the importance of prequels and possible change of reader's perspective along the way.

While writing a review, it wouldn't hurt to focus less on telling your personal story, sharing your food preferences, expressing your love for cats and dogs, campaigning your political pamphlets, or raising SJW awareness - all of which is undoubtedly interesting - and try to focus more on artistic merits and critical appraisal of the book you actually read.

You know, for us, who actually read your reviews.
