I like this Lightsong character. He's a lazy, mannerless sloth, sure, but I like him.

But my god, could prose be more beautiful, worldbuilding magnificent and characters interesting than this?

which backfired and culminated the way Jordan's Lews Therin/Rand Al Tor & Lanfear psycho-drama did...

Point is: dear characters, you should seriously stop and reconsider resurrection of your significant others.

Probably just jumping to conclusions atm, but, so far, this book really reminds me of Steven Erikson's Malazan world. Touch on the plot itself, hint of characterization, breath of history, mythology and lore... even magic system screams 'Erikson' at me... so yeah... I really like this book.

So far I am not impressed.

But bloody hell, this prose is wonderful. Most exciting part of the book so far was finding the way to defend vines and grapes from parasitic spirits and blight. Yeah... I know! But writing makes it really enjoyable.

When you try to topple Erikson as king of info-dumping. Erikson at least achieved it throughout one book.
You, sir, tried that in one chapter.

Is it me or is it really strange when a character in book has your name?
I mean, this is first time I'm seeing my name in fantasy book, and it's really off-putting.
Cannot even imagine how all those Sams and Frodos must feel like...

Usually there's a war-cry, act of bravery, badassery or treachery, then a bit of slashing and then they drop like sacks of meat. You mourn them if they were important or skim through to the cool parts if not.
I don't remember when was the last time I was this much disturbed by death of a fictional side-character. o0

So far Eremul’s profanity and Isaac’s buffoonery are the only redeemable qualities this book has to offer for its overall lack of… well, pretty much everything.
