'Have you no thoughts on the matter?' Blushweaver finally asked.
'I try to avoid having thoughts. They lead to other thoughts, and - if you're not careful - those lead to actions. Actions make you tired. I have this on rather good authority from someone who once read it in a book.'

I like this Lightsong character. He's a lazy, mannerless sloth, sure, but I like him.

"That's exactly the problem. Everyone's convinced that their lives are over just because their hearts stopped beating."

Taken out of context - makes no sense.
But that last sentence has more depth than entire Words of Radiance.
Ahhh, dear Brandon, why have you stopped writing good books...

Tadarus, Fangodrel, D'zan, Udurum, Yaskatha... cool names which tie my eyes in knots and hurt my brain whenever I read them...
But my god, could prose be more beautiful, worldbuilding magnificent and characters interesting than this?
Is it too early to say no? No.

Sanderson, Fletcher, Brett, I apologize, but you'll have to wait.
John, you have my full attention.

OK, there's Sanderson's Elend & Vin romance going on here;
with Rothfuss's Lanre & Lyra tragic love story;
which backfired and culminated the way Jordan's Lews Therin/Rand Al Tor & Lanfear psycho-drama did...

Point is: dear characters, you should seriously stop and reconsider resurrection of your significant others.

Just a peek, I said. No further than map.
OK, maybe prologue then. And that's it!
First chapter.
You meant to say fourth chapter, right?
Put it down! Now!

G.R.R. Martin's Army of Dead - beyond the Wall since '96.
Still out of sight.

M. Turner's Army of Dead - dead and kicking since 5th chapter.
They aren't even mindless zombies. They actually have a purpose.
Reasonable, justifiable... relatable. Well... :/

No George, take your time. I insist.

Probably just jumping to conclusions atm, but, so far, this book really reminds me of Steven Erikson's Malazan world. Touch on the plot itself, hint of characterization, breath of history, mythology and lore... even magic system screams 'Erikson' at me... so yeah... I really like this book.

Why am I reading this book in voice of Dame Helen Mirren?
And why am I enjoying it? ಠ_ಠ
Is it the writing? Or am I going through some phase?

But bloody hell, this prose is wonderful. Most exciting part of the book so far was finding the way to defend vines and grapes from parasitic spirits and blight. Yeah... I know! But writing makes it really enjoyable.
Also, Vincenza! <3

When you try to topple Erikson as king of info-dumping. Erikson at least achieved it throughout one book.
You, sir, tried that in one chapter.
I think I need a break... from existence.

Is it me or is it really strange when a character in book has your name?
I mean, this is first time I'm seeing my name in fantasy book, and it's really off-putting.
Cannot even imagine how all those Sams and Frodos must feel like...

There were other things that they did not discuss—Marelle’s blindness, how long before the city clans ended the Reach Antach, why Cete had chosen to stay instead of leaving for a less perilous reach.
And yet, somehow, they found enough to say to each other, or shared their silences in her shop, or on the porch of Cete’s shabby little house."

‘Don’t say anything. This is going to hurt. A lot. And then you’ll die. Are you ready?’

Usually there's a war-cry, act of bravery, badassery or treachery, then a bit of slashing and then they drop like sacks of meat. You mourn them if they were important or skim through to the cool parts if not.
I don't remember when was the last time I was this much disturbed by death of a fictional side-character. o0

Half-dead men lying in the filth.
Screaming.
A whole lot of things screaming."
