so after a hiatus, i've come back. i only stopped because i knew i'd keep reading and not do any of my assessments.
read an interesting point in a review. if these trials are supposed to be spectacles, how come 3/4 of them are in enclosed spaces no one CAN watch??? maybe i shouldn't have spent my time reading reviews .

ah, jaren smells like something so uniquely himself, and also of all four elements. Kiva is lucky to have a man who smells like the perfume store. where's MY perfume store boyfriend?

ok, i admit, i read ahead. i was right about one obvious thing.
It just seems that this book... is so LONG. The aforementioned Queen doesn't arrive till page 61, and even then she's spent nearly all of it a vegetable. and i wish there was more interaction in this developing romance. It seems entirely superficial. Also, there isn't an awful lot of actual magic in this. Also - why do only ROYALS get to have power, huh?

A minor nitpick, but "the woman" is used... very often to refer to someone that already has a name, or even when "she" could have been used.

Another question though- Lynette is Australian. So why is this book using American spelling and formatting?

This book series can't decide what it wants to be. The witches were perfectly glad to murder Louise for their cause, as well as other innocents, and yet they're somehow morally superior? Louise might've fallen for her "enemy" but her acceptance only goes as far as ~~he's different from the rest~~. Its downright laughable how Reid can make sweeping "realisations" that the witches have been in the right all along.

I love how they are absolutely convinced they have to Be Somewhere before a certain date with absolutely no proof that something is actually Going To Happen

I read the first 76 pages in one sitting. It's certainly different, but overall, I'm intrigued. Is snow likeable? Not particularly. But is he sympathisable? I'd say so. He's human. He's also cunning. And he's still very much a teenage boy. I keep accidentally picturing old snow's head on his body.

So. I have no idea what I'm getting into. I'm just vaguely hopeful about some fleshed out worldbuilding, 'tsall.
