Whoops, I read the ending, and I was right. I genuinely don't know if I can stomach the rest of this book because it's hard to read about psychopaths who never get their comeuppance. Even if it's written in a quirky manner. I guess that's the other part that doesn't really sit with me: terrible things happening but narrated so junvenilely. Hmm.I just hate DNFing books though.

I genuinely hope Isabel and Erin rot in jail and get beaten up by the other prisoners but I know this won't happen.

What really just took me out was they're ripping up "some book" in the drawer for writing paper and IT'S THE BIBLE 💀💀💀 THE VERY BOOK THEY SHOULD BE READING 💀💀💀💀💀💀😂😂😂

Good grief am I really over halfway already???!!! Hot damn, that devil's cub is a sexy beast. (I can't believe I just wrote that.) Unfortunately it seems I was always meant to say that given his looks are like, exactly my type. And "womaniser falls for the one who doesn't take his crap" has always been a beloved trope.
I can see why this is one of Heyer's most famous novels!

So Lady Fanny has a son who is 30, and this book takes place 24 years after the first one, yet in the first one there wasn't even the SLIGHTEST mention of a child that I can remember!!! And he didn't come to France with them so that means she left a 6 year old child at home for 2 months!! Ugh. It's like me to get hung up on a technicality at page 23.

If you go in without reading the blurb, the homoerotic vibes would be quite funny 😂

Did you mean: the most *entertaining* man she had ever met?
Every so often you read period pieces and go "gosh I wish they just said what they were thinking". He is that man 😂

You know how you think back on umbridge and go, damn, I really hate her? And then you reread chapter 19 and it reminds you how you really, really, really, really, REALLY hate her?? If I hadn't already read this 12 times knowing her comeuppance then it'd be too unbearable to hold out for 300+ more pages 😂

It didn't look like it in the movie but holy hell those dementors were going to KISS harry and his cousin! Knowing umbr idge sent them.... that woman is pure psycho....

Nitpicks aside, the drama is quite fun.

Ah, I like how we have whole paragraphs explaining how noble this sister is, from the mouth of the other sister. Because we wouldn't want to deduce anything for ourselves! (Or, mayhap, it could have been said with more subtlety, but that isn't exactly Ms Sand's style so far.)

Huh, the head hopping has me dizzy. I think it's starting from one perspective, then for just a paragraph (with no break) it jumps into the thoughts of the other, then switches back. And yet it doesn't show any signs of being a true omniscient pov. So it's just the style. (Gaahh). I've seen this before in books from this decade.

You gotta love 90s authors... protagonist is a girl skinny "to the point of frailty"... except her big boobs. And the guy is already sexually experienced, and makes sure to ruminate on that so we know. Lol.

Man, I forgot how much I despise the Ape. Still a masterpiece of a book, but hard to read at times.
