Horrible stuff, obviously, but the writing style, with the long expositions and descriptions, give it a kind of emotional distance, like I’m reading a newspaper article.

It’s a good thing I read treasure island, or else I would not understand the last page and a half.

Vague allusions to something horrible. A bit of a convenient amnesia.

One or two actual scenes but mostly descriptions and exposition.

drop the H’s and a character becomes french.

All random the culture references are tiring.

Chapter 02: old man rambles.

Tom says a bad haircut is trauma. Two paragraphs about a new hat.

Several paragraphs about a lamp and the button at the bottom and memories.

Strange. I would never have imagined a conflict being started by a seagull.

I think I need re-acclimate to this slow pace. Tom says something and then travels in his memories before coming back to the conversation.

Huh. Sure. — “He thought about the fish in there.”

Slow writing, somehow. Retired man gets a knock on the door.

This book is reminding me of the 1993 movie, Posse.
