Murakami is always great in portraying change... Most of his novels tend to be bildungsroman. Though this one is about a man in his mid-30s, it is still about change because the main protagonist finds new interesting quirks in his life almost on a daily basis even after the shocking revelation by his wife in the beginning of the story.
