So the Japanese American internment camp locations at the time were built in the middle of nowhere. Not only that, I also discover that most Japanese Canadians were also forcibly removed from their homes too, being relocated to Canadian ghost towns and mining camps...

With the sudden jump in timeline with disconnected characters, the story feels very Cloud Atlas-ish

Continuing my progress on this novel. Just got reminded how the author Kate Atkinson likes to introduce so many characters within such a short “time span” of pages.

So many unique Russian names here (which I am unaccustomed to), but somehow I am able to follow them and keep track which one is which…the author Bulgakov has such talents!

Also, I noticed early on that this novel has a magical realism undercurrent, which I love.

The story has such a strong religious undertones in the beginning. I’m about to find out if this is to become the overarching theme of the whole novel…or if the Christian setting is only there to set the scene.
