Bangkok is messy, as expected. I have seen Bangkok from Thai movies before, but experiencing it through Jo Nesbø’s words seems more real and visceral somehow!

I regret not reviewing the first book “The Bat”. Now I lost some of the context of what happened in the first novel (as it was more than three years ago that I read it). Especially regarding Harry Hole’s relationship with his sister and what had happened to her in the first novel. So I read a full plot review for the first novel just to put into context Harry’s life right now

This novel is WEIRD. The writing style constantly changes, and I find it peculiar that Rushdie chose such a confusing style for his debut novel...such a risky move! Thankfully he is famous now, but what if he ended up getting dismissed as a rambling author by the public?

I know I shouldn’t be saying this since Rushdie is a more prominent author than Coelho, but Rushdie’s magical realism style reminds me of Paulo Coelho’s. The only major thing lacking in this debut novel is quotation marks for its characters...

So now it’s 777 years later, which means the whole story really does take place in an alternate universe

After finishing a few novels on my Nook Glowlight, I’ve finally discovered how to annotate excerpts anywhere within the book! Those annotations might disappear when I return the book thru the library’s Overdrive, but oh well. At the very least it helps when I’m about to review the book later

My first ever foray into the well-respected author Salman Rushdie’s works! Only read a few pages, yet interesting so far

The raunchy passage about how Vatanen first met Irja was just slipped there without any forewarning! He simply threw the hare out of the barn to avoid it “looking” into whatever it is they were doing...haha
