The way I'm thinking maybe you have to be Asian to fully appreciate this book and connect with a character who has racist parents. Like as a black person if I had racist parents I'd be waiting to disown them, just popping a squat until 18 and constantly letting them know "hey I'm not racist like you" but the fact Frank even wants to appease them or has given up makes me not like him 🥲

I think Yoon is gonna give me a typical white coming of age story with a Korean mc somehow and he's gonna manage it. I already don't like the mc and the love interest so uh...yeah..

I like Yoon's style and voice but I highly doubt he's going to deliver any meaningful conclusion on racism like...I have really no hope. I just hope nothing terribly cringe worthy happens

I want to strangle every editor at William Morrow for allowing this book to be 399 pages long (story only) with only 8 chapters. EIGHT CHAPTERS?? THAT'S NOT EVEN A COOL, SIGNIFICANT NUMBER TO STRIVE FOR WHY ON EARTH WAS THIS ALLOWED?? Walschots has SO many pages breaks I'm wondering why it couldn't have been a separate chapter??
