Interesting to a point. Overwritten at times. Hoping we reach the challenge and mystery soon.

Now that was funny! And unexpected.

Gotta say, neither this author's writing nor Hunter's actions rival Child and Reacher respectively. I'd quit this juvenile mess if I had something other to read.

First Joe Hunter. Don't usually start a third book in a series but stuck in an airport for hours and this is what I have. I enjoy Child's Reacher and this said Hunter rivals Reacher so ... however, the lame prologue in Hunter's voice doesn't begin things well

"Ulroc's Redemption" from Ben Galley was great fantastical gangster boxing fun...until the uninspired denouement after a predictable climax. Disappointing after all the ingenuity preceding.

Kirk, er, William's real life stories are often interesting and entertaining. His musings in between are not. Essentially he just wants us to enjoy and savor the beauty of life and living.

"Mortopia" by Wang was exciting and filled with edgy danger, but the climax fizzled for me.

"The Twists of Fate" by Flannery was intriguing, flowing with subterfuge and danger. A nice betrayal with interesting characters.

Elliott's "Blades for a Bounty" is a great delight! When this opened with chapters and titles like the previous story I groaned, not expecting satisfaction. I was wrong: this is a terrific tale of a deadly trio who I would definitely like to read more of. Good ending to the anthology.

Jonathan French "War Powers" was quite interesting. Unexpected genre mashup filled with intriguing characters and an unique need for an assassin. Rather somber, too. I liked it.

Perhaps it's because I just watched a Guy Ritchie show, but the frenzied dreamscape of a first half quite nonplused me in "The Dark Knight of the Soul" by Steele. Then a few hints and some action revealed the secret and it was interesting.

Comer's "The Blood of Khalid Al'Tahir" was some exciting swordplay and dastardly sorcery. And Tariq sure has aspirations.

Interesting experiences shared sandwiched between philosophical examinations.

Chapter 5 "Listen to the Music" was pretty good, the first half a strong relaying of his life creating music over almost 4 decades.

Man.
Man oh man.
Talk about being pumped up and ready to kick ass and keep looking for more to stomp!

My whole soul knows there's at least one more betrayal looming though...

...and I ache.

Caught me on that one. Nicely turned, though damn I regret the uprising didn't transpire. Answered a long ago (and almost forgotten) mystery. Now - where will the next betrayal come from?

Hot damn! Talk about The Kiss, The Thirst! I'm addicted to this story.

I think I know what something secret is...if I'm right, we're falling even deeper into hell.

We have a change of narrator, who is casting doubt on much of what preceded with hints at all of what preceded. I am intrigued but I am also sure hoping that the first narrator was not a false lead

Such a fascinating story. Things always go worse, no matter how less worse they were looking...and then there's a miraculous save. No, respite, not a real save; just a pause in the horror. And they carry on. Still don't think the art fits the tale, but at least I now understand it's the way the chronicler views things.

Ahhh, like opening a fine vintage, let this savory repast begin!

Sullivan's "May Luck be with You" is an interesting origin story for Royce. An unusual piece of his past that definitely shapes him. Nothing spectacular but a strong story and decent start to this themed anthology.

Whoa! Didn't see that coming!! Nice one.

Fun troubles compound as usual for Nik. Samphire has a mind for crafting great challenges. I'd really like to see and learn more of Sereh though.

Pages 86-96 are the point of this book, at least why I wanted to read it. Pages 86-92 are just beautiful, heartfelt, awe inducing and made me ponder.

Finally got to space. Definitely not the book I thought or sought. Definitely won't read another of Shatner's...not even sure what to call this... gobbledegook.

I enjoy our hero Thorn and Captain Gale of the Ash Guard quite a bit, and this is shaping up into another nicely done mystery. This is slightly sloppy though, which I don't recall from the previous 2 novels.

Speaking of overwriting (most likely), my batshit cra-cra story "Wisps" is at least entertaining...I hope.

Chappell - "The Crossroads in the Forest" has a great doublecross, a horrible jest of a doublecross betrayal, and predictable betrayal. It ends much better than it begins, for Talon is a dick. Cleverness abounds, but so does overwriting.

Emery - "Schism of Spectres" is Phil working his magic again. Deadly, marvelous imagery, terrific foes in the barbaric burning wicker men AND the deadly swordmasters, and finally leaving me wondering just a bit about what I'd read.

Graham - "Sorceries in Assabarr" gives a grand ol' S&S tale that improves as it progresses. Fun to play with Welgar again.
