The story is way more different than the Studio Ghibli film adaptation.

Theon's chapters have never been my favorite, but I like the way that Martin writes his paranoia and the trouble he has with his conquering of Winterfell.

Everything is hilarious except for Polnareff's part.

Tyrion's chapters sometimes make me cringe. Somehow the HBO series erased the worst parts of his character.

"Modesty was boring" is one way to summarize this book. Half of the stuff in it either makes me laugh or cringe—or both—but it's mostly a disgusting display of desperation of the impoverished and the lack of empathy from the high class.

Of the 4 kings—Joffrey, Stannis, Renly, & Rob—Renly's now dead at this point in the book. Of the remaining 3, Joffrey's the only king who doesn't care about his work. He's the face of Westeros & loves the power, but Tyrion is the actual ruler. It's interesting how Joffrey criticizes the "pretenders," but he seems like the only one pretending to be a king.
I love the parallels and themes of the story so far.

Reading this another time made me realize how privileged Sasuke thinks he is. He's battling Itachi and becomes upset because he's unable to kill him. Sasuke expresses his frustrations by questioning "how dare you" rather than questioning his own abilities. He never stopped being arrogant. Kishimoto made him a consistently written character, which is interesting due to the inconsistencies in Naruto's and Sakura's...

Moshfegh knows how to write disgusting characters...

I can't say that the book is disturbing (yet), but so far, it's unsettling...
