Struggling to find the time to dedicate to this. It's one of those that needs a couple of hours at a time - not two or three pages on the bus. Aside from the absolute lack of plot progression, there's something entirely captivating about the chaotic characterisation of the spirits. I'm deeply uncomfortable reading some of the descriptors and therefore I'm in my element. Magical realism is difficult.

If there was a film - I wouldn't watch it with the lights off. Imagine dropping acid and watching Coraline.

Not at all what I expected.

Imagine a lovechild of Zusak's 'The Book Thief' and McCarthy's 'The Road.'

Beautifully written first few chapters.
