- this was so meh so far, that you can not IMAGINE my face when it got revealed that it would be a TRILOGY and not a duology, as advertised. And apparently this was planned since the beginning so lying to us about its length was part of that plan, just great
- I wish I would DNF more often but I want to see if this gets any better 😬

- I like this so far, Bri is an interesting protagonist
- However was it REALLY neccessary to have her watch two fae with an exhibitionism fetish having sex?? "I got wet" well I sure didn't! 💀

My father died this week so I have been reading some comfort books while planning his funeral together with my family. I want to read some books with a grief thematic soon to help me deal with this, as it still feels surreal (I was NOT ready for this at all).
I hope I can one day be half as good a person as he was to me, I miss him.

- everybody and their mom, grandma and aunt read this so now it's my turn
- starts with a death and lots of tears and some talk about the afterlife
- weird setup with the six Madonna babies but it's ok
- constantly thinking of the Tsetse fly when CeCe appears (German woes)
- my first "belletristik" genre book!
- Maia is alright as protagonist but Tiggy is my fav
- They love Pa but he was always away travelling?

- I still think the Nightmare is the best character in the series hands down
- I like Elm much more in this book, probably because he isn't complaining about Beth all the time
- Ione is my second fav character, she has some cool moments
- less rhymes which is great
- If her next book has some Ione+Nightmare romance duo that would be great, I think she can write the violent nature of these characters well

Got myself the new illustrated edition of the Hunger Gamesand it looks so good! I'm happy that they didn't cheap out on this and hired a real professional artist ❤️

- ok so Elm doesnt trust Elspeth and thinks she's a monster but battle angle Ione who's kill count is higher than Elsbeths in the first seconds of this book is a-ok
- I read the sequel because of the Nightmare and Ione so this is ok for me too
- this is going to be the better romance, isn't it

- the repeated rhymes were too much at some point
- the ending was very good, really really good

- Don't read this for the smut scenes

- I like Jespyr, the aunt, Ione & the rest of the card-theft-gang (wish there was more of a heist feeling though, kinda thought that would happen when I learned they had to steal the cards
- the many villains: stepmother, prince, king, doctor. I hope they'll be fleshed out more
- German audiobook is hands down the best way to experience this, the way she voices the Nightmare is peak VA! 😤

- the things I dislike:
- the nightmare is rhyming 24/7 which is fine, but "magic has it's price" and "I can hear/feel his claws" shouldn't have to be repeated that often
- Elm. I know most people love him, but he isn't thankful one bit after being saved, calls her insane, only tries to save a kid when she begs him to (complains about it), etc. why do we have to spend so much time with him?

- I know this has the dystopia tag, but unlike the Hunger Games this has been non-stop depression porn so far. Have some pockets of happiness here and there so we know what they strive for
- I do like the dual pov protagonists, though it would've been better if one of them was pro empire at first
- augurs and the setting is interesting
- epic fantasy, not romantasy
- Pacing is slow, we aren't past the blurb yet

- I've heard lots of good things about this one
- So far I love the unique card magic system
- the family tension is high, hopefully we'll get a confrontation of the dad
- great choice to have the demon talk in rhymes, great narration as well

- ngl I dread continuing this, but maybe it picks up in the latter half?

- loved it! Looking forward to the sequel, the twist at the end with the antagonist was very welcome

- one thing I liked about FW is she had multiple female friends. Guess how many Lyra has

- 12 is way too many trials but so far I liked them

- new outfit made me think of Winx Club. I imagine this is how the transformations look like
- Considering this is NA and my last read, "Where the Dark stands still", is YA I'd have switched them when it comes to writing style and tone

- I like it so far, Lyra is ok besides being "snarky"

- writing style is "modern"
- author seems to have read about Greek mythology which is sadly not a given for romantasy, so kudos to her!

- Vase talks about babies a lot. "She thought how she'll never have babies" (huh?? why? She isn't that old and if he divorces her she can marry whoever she wants) then later again about how powerful the babies are going to be, etc.
It doesn't even make sense because they are not supposed to be in love yet (obvs to the reader he fell the second he met her)
- we haven't really seen the magic yet? What CAN it do?

- So far it doesn't annoy me but I honestly feel a little bored/underwhelmed. It's not offensively dumb, doesn't have an (annoying) "snarky" FMC and there's a hint of something more interesting beneath the tropes, but it just isn't interested in going there
- Cover is gongeous
- Was this by any chance a star wars fanfic once? The coven has a jedi vibe
- Childhood friends < Hottie daughter of dictator => our hero

- I have read this sexy-assassin-who-was-abused type intro in too many romantasies before so I'm glad we got it over with quickly
- the coven was nice
- MMC is constantly horny which is contrasted by her being constantly traumatised and angry
- snake demon magic is interesting, is SHE the "shadow daddy" lol?

- I dont love any side character yet
- queer person being the only on screen villain yet

- "What if a thought had weight? Lots of people thinking something at the same time... it could have a tangible effect on our world!" Omggg what is he doing to me, I want to take this at least a little seriously but he just drops this nugget

- "I almost forgot the war" WHAT IS IT WITH ROMANTASY MCS FCKING ON THE BATTLEFIELD?!"
- besides that, this book is like a warm bath after an annoying day

- imagine Harry Potter's mother saves his life and he says to her that it was selfish and she wanted to play hero, lmao only in Romantasy
- I love the two female ghost side characters now, I wouldnt recommend reading this if you don't like the FMC though (unlike Fourth Wing which has a bajillion side characters)

- at about 40 percent you can finally feel some chemistry between the two, which is great because I love slow-burn but hate when they just fuck and there's nothing else
- at the same time, I don't think this is going to be one of the big spice books
- I swear this is the stinkiest FMC, the author always makes sure we know whenever she does
- is the sister still alive? Like do we know she can hunt without her?

- Boreas on the other hand is rather generic, atp we know some of his hobbies but he doesn't exactly leave an impression. You could insert any fae lord MMC instead and it would be the same guy
- the worldbuilding is one of the better ones of the genre, there's lots of mysterious stuff left to explore and I like that it's based on real world mythology (example the Odyssey and Prometheus are mentioned)

- she isn't the smartest candle on the cake but if you think about her situation, most of her decisions seem reasonable
- like hell, if I had to survive on razor's edge and winter never ends, I'd be snarky and unbearable as well if I met the literal winter god
- so I love her, I really do. Usually I'm just "ok" with these Romantasy FMCs so that's an nice change. Don't expect someone as good as Emily Wilde though

- So far so good! Intro is basically ACOTAR though
- This is the most trashy FMC and I love her for it, finally someone who tells these eons old fae freaks how it is (yes he's a god but c'mon it's basically the same)
- FMC has an alcohol problem
- literally tricks him into marriage
- he thinks she's ugly and she hates him

- He still has his watch, if he hadn't how could the science woman lust over him later down the line

-cramming this into my reading schedule because this is the yool2025 and Dan Brown wants to release "Secret of Secrets". And somebody said the love interest of that one appeared in this one before.
- ANOTHER 1,90m+ tall evil man?? Is there a box with them in his basement? Is he into sadism and/or masochism as well?
