- Some things better stay in drafts (concerning the dragons, you know what I'm talking about)
- the little book citations in the beginning of each chapter are unnecessary
- would actually like a glossary for once
- FMC is already the most special rider who ever specialed, maybe wait a little with that in a FIVE BOOKS series
- Imogen is interesting

- there was a stretch (up until the trashing) in which Violet was much less horny and it was a blessing because now she's back, together with everyone else
- Liam is nice, hope he wasn't introduced to die soon
- In general it would be good if the "villains" wouldn't die so soon and stay more of a threat for longer
- Dain turned into the most annoying character to ship her with "Xaden" sooner

- the translation was a rushed job, at some point they just translated part of a word but not the full (bärenfigurine), they left the "they" pronoun in English, some words mercifully are the same (rare = rar) but they are used so little that they still sound weird in context (imagine a teen saying "wow that is totes uncouth")
- the first steamy scene so far was good
- Xaden is consent king apparently
- many deaths

- Minna is a good female character as well, really thirsty for more of them after a bout of mediocre ones.

- amazing. One of my best books of the year, possibly the best because besides the characters, the story and the historical details, the humour is just peak!

- fight_&_then_let_live would be better if it was on accident and not intentional. It just doesn't make sense with context.
- the MMC (Alric) is responsible for the deaths of her loved ones and war crimes in general so a romance with him is questionable.
Him not wanting to kill innocent people when they are part of his empire is NOT enough
- The frequency and sequence of events now feels odd

- "Emmerich wusste das rennen nichts brachte und sie konnten nicht schon wieder jemanden verprügeln."

- Winter is one of my fav characters in a while
- he's booksmart, resourceful at combat and unintentionally funny.
- him having a vast celebrity knowledge because of his grandma and old job is amazing

- I do like a "who's the traitor" type story in a war setting, however it feels like we are already supposed to know who he is.
Hopefully I'm wrong and this is a red herring, would be a missed opportunity otherwise
- Shadow and light magic are pretty similar because it's the force and it's barely hidden. I'm not a sw fan so I wish it wasn't so obvs, but I guess she loves it too much for that

- Some of the airship scenes have an almost Ghibli aesthetic (think "Nausicaa and the valley of the winds") which I love
- the giant storm ship is very transparently a star wars thing (death star)
- have to repeat how much I like that it isn't weirdly horny so far when we are AT WAR. plz.

- this is for sure based on a Reylo fanfic (not a starwars fan)
- Thea is one of the better romantasy authors though she tries to cram as many adjectives as she can find into her writing, which is too much sometimes
- less characters than FW but I like bestie Khaede much more than those
- great idea to begin with the wartime wedding

- I like that this is the mirrored situation of the other after-ww1-book I've read last year, with August's wife having a husband who got killed in the war.
- I like that he loves her kids as his own
- The moment two characters stand before each other and aren't even mad but calmly acknowledge how fucked up of a situation the war left them in

- August is a protagonist one usually sees in point-n-click adventures, this man will use everything he has to lie to you and get where he wants to
- Winter is a goodboy golden retriever, the Watson to his sarcastic Holmes
- again a strong reminder that after the first world war, any veteran was left to their own devices and basically thrown away like trash, no wonder people lost hope in their government

Loved this one so far!
- Xingyin is one of my fav protagonists in a while, she's actually badass and knows when to talk and when to stay silent to infuriate her enemies
- the empress (villain?) is strong
- When prince Liwei broke the teacup I audibly gasped, what is this - a great love interest for once??
- love the author's writing style, just excellent
- The Chinese inspired setting slaps

- in this very serious war college Violet's sister talks about sex in the half hour she has before Vi is sent of to the first of many deadly challenges
- Violet is "the smartest woman she has ever known"
- "Xaden" is looking at Vi menacingly every walking second, which just comes across comical at some point, like c'mon
- Violet can't stop objectifying ever single man
- Jack is the actual (cartoonish) enemy

- so far it's an easy and fast read and I like the writing style, even though there are some repetitions (Violet and her chin)
- the German translation is baffling sometimes, like not translating "Mommy" "Daddy" "King" and "Mountain" for reasons only known to the translators
- Violet is very horny and her being "forced" to stay with the riders is as believable as Yugi in the "priorities in yu-gi-oh" prozd video

I'm trying a new thing today.
Since I'm sick in bed I'll read 30 pages of each (popular) book I've lying around me like a summoning circle.
After 30 pages I'll give a quick opinion in the review progress part.
Then I'm deciding which one I'll read for real, so wish me luck that these are good lmao :3

The finale is sooo good that it bumps this book from 3 stars to 4, however I really can't give 5 stars after an infuriating middle part and the "resolution" that Julia is a goody good girl who helps the poor and disenfranchised (what she is, is a prick).

Oooh she likes it when the rich boy cosplays being a poor one, got it.

At least you can say this book leaves me much more invested than the last because of the drama!
Still think it's a worse book and I've already read the next one so I know she isn't getting any better. Hopefully the fourth one resolves that drama so we can focus on the investigation and the other characters again.

Leo is stuck up and of a different class than Julia but she is much more stuck up in this book. She doesn't want to do her job despite needing it for Julia (remember, she said the dancer job doesn't pay enough in the last book), she never tries to contact him, never asks about him.
SHE is the one who talks about the poor little boys, then when Leo investigates in that case she's angry he's busy. Awful character.

"When did you ever do something that helped me?"
-> gave her an insanely expensive camera
-> gave her a job as the first female photographer that pays better then any other of her jobs
-> took her to expensive restaurants, theatre, bought her clothes, etc.
"Uwuwu but I love you despite all these things you do only for yourself."
-> shows this love by breaking up with him, ignoring him, doing whatever she wants

in a perverse twist of fate, the relationship between Leo and Paul of hateful respect is much more interesting then any other relationship in this series.

The case itself is good though, reminds me a little of the second case in the pendergast series at this point. Which I wouldn't have to hear about Julia again though. "Uhuhu he leaves her hanging to go to work" Well one of them actually HAS a job and is even getting more popular with his colleagues now that he works professionally.

and no, her getting fired for being ill while a man would keep his job are no excuses. Julia knows this can happen to her and she isn't even ill, she's going to theatre with her bf, going to restaurants, going to the zoo with her daughter and investigating a case.
She just doesn't want to do her job and doesn't care at all about what'll happen. While Leon's character progressed in this one hers regressed.

I'm so annoyed at Julia for wasting the opportunity to be the first female crime photographer and "letting" herself become jobless when she has to care for a disabled child. Obvs everyone is very sexist, but I can't imagine any woman at that time behaving like her when she knows the only other options she has left are prostitution and marrying. "How am I going to pay for her medicine?" is a joke question

Besides that it's a good story so far, I like the Egyptian flair and hearing more about little Anna from the last book.
