Subtly is not this books strong suit

This is more instalovey and less mysterious than I was hoping.

Heard Ahmed talk about this book at a digital book launch in 2020 and found it incredibly interesting. Haven't had a library that's had a copy till my mom got a card in Phoenix. So thanks mom!

There's still three hours of this I'd have to listen to to finish and that's just not going to happen.
To the DNF graveyard it goes.

I appreciate the twist but it wasn't good enough to prevent this book from putting me in a slump. Haven't touched it in over a week.
Also don't see the purpose in the duel POVs. Feel like it should have just been Ciere's.

I'm really liking this. There is a heck of a lot going on and it took me a second to get acquainted with everything and the way it was depicted via art. I'm also not usually one for timeloops, but I feel like this one is being done very well.

Yeah this isn't for me. The writing is reallllly trying to be whitty and it doesn't work.
This may be the fastest DNF I've ever done 🤣

I'm in my Leverage adjacent era if you couldn't tell

Backstory, backstory, backstory! 👏👏👏

This is like the most boring episode of Leverage ever. It doesn't help that the narrator sounds as excited as if she was told to do a terrible British accent dictating paint drying.

I don't think that our characters or the plot is particularly compelling (at least not yet). But I haven't immediately put it down so 🤷‍♀️

This was written back in 2014 about a possible future pandemic. My first "pandemic" book since 2020 and it's scary that she wasn't that far off. 😳

Not much superheroing is happening but I appreciate the conversations about the complexity of the mixed race experience and feeling outside your culture because of it.

Had this on my TBR for a bit but my library didn't have a copy till I requested it but no audiobook. So when I saw my moms new library had a copy of the audiobook I was jazzed!

Allison Grace is such a weird name in this world. It's too formal and doesn't match any of the other more magical names. It also doesn't have any derivatives from the fairytales. It sounds like something that should be in a book about Southern Belles but not this story. Maybe that's the point, making her such an ostracized character unlike the others. But AG is great if it would only be used more often.

This book reminded me a lot like Heroes. And like Heroes, both wish I would have stopped holding out hope and quit earlier.
The women were overly sexualized, the interesting plot was wrecked by info dumping, a lot of unnecessary relationship nonsense between equallt unlikeable characters and so much time spent doing absolutely nothing.

It's a good voice, really makes you annoyed, but Rumples voice is getting on my nerves. Do really like the new character though! The band feels very similar to that of the Wayward Children or at least their children's book counterparts.

TW: Suicide attempts continue to be brought up

Why are there so many weird sidenotes about characters flirting or being sexy or sexualized? So strange and unnecessary.

Crashing the Ball was lots of fun!
