Entertaining and unique, but left me kinda unsatisfied

The way memories and everyday life scenes are connected and intertwined is strangely mesmerising and satisfying to read. I like how it makes us feel like we’re kinda going nowhere and we’re gonna follow Fuyuko forever

At first, I didn’t think I’d enjoy this one the way I did. It was creepy and intimate, both terrifying and soothing.

It's giving what Strange Weather in Tokyo could have been 🤡 It has the same slowness and mundanity, the same blurriness around time, but the relationship is much more subtle and natural, clumsy in such a pleasing and humane way I really enjoy.
I also really like the rare but always so relevant descriptions of sensations

Their friendship is everything. I love Hijiri, I love Fuyiko, I love their conversation and I'm so happy they have eachother 😭💕

I wasn't expecting such stories from this, but this one was something... oddly comforting? It was very well paced.

This is insane

I wasn't aware of Akila's existence before reading this, now her relationship with Edie is my absolute favourite thing in it. It's so complex and touching

Very enjoyable beginning, interesting concepts, a bit disappointing in the end.

C'est un peu convenu et répétitif

At first it reminded me of Sally Rooney, but it's much rawer, sharper, angrier. I like it a lot, and I love Edie in all her bitterness

J'avais peur qu'il essaie désespérément d'être actuel et pertinent, mais c'était une impression dûe au résumé. Pour l'instant le livre en soit est un bon pastiche, avec une intertextualité plus subtile que ce que ne laissait présager la 4e de couverture

Last one was bittersweet, both so mundane and tragic. I liked it but I was looking for more.

Yeah, so the second half of the collection isn't made of absurd and horror stories anymore, but of tales. They're not bad at all, I actually really enjoyed that one, but they don't have the thrill and the uniqueness of the first ones.

Another disappointing one.. Again, it wasn't bad, but it didn't have the vibe of the rest of the collection and failed to really grab my attention.

Oooh the writing is so goooood. It has the type of random/far-fetched figures of speech I love, and the tone really gives life to the mc !

This one wasn't really for me. It was a good tale, but it lacked the absurdity and creepiness of the previous stories.

La plus est vraiment fluide et naturelle. J'aime beaucoup, et je trouve bien maîtrisé, le mélange entre le récit autobiographique, le recul critique et les ajouts contextuels !

The trap really was the embodiment of grim tale in all it’s horror and graphicness 💀

Both great, I liked the melancholy they brought to the collection. I also really enjoy how they subtly yet dramatically question humanity

Oooh this one was a new kind of horror for me. The atmosphere was immaculate, so oppressive I can still feel my heart sinking and the lump in my throat. I do wish there was maybe a tiny tiny bit more to figure out what was happening!

WOW !! This was such a strong start ! The pace was impeccable, the horror innovative and fun and absurd, with a great balance of reality and fantasy. All that while also offering a glimpse at the touching and sad relationship between the narrator and the grand-father. Peak short-story
