I was about to write « I’m still bored and now slightly uncomfortable », but then I read a graphic description of a child being assaulted and I’m just questioning the author’s ethics and why this was awarded prizes ? For real, what am I missing out ? How is it enjoyable to read graphic sexual assault especially on children ??

I literally have nothing to say about this...?

Really loving this so far, the atmosphere is both mundane and a tiny bit uncomfortable/uncanny I really like this unexpected balance. The writing is also enjoyable, truly flowing.

Nicht was ich erwartet hatte, aber ich mag es trotzdem ! Ich hatte was wie "Meto" erwartet, über eine kleine geheime Gruppe und nicht ein Art Diktatur. Es ist auf jeden Fall faszinierend 👀
Und das Schreiben ist gelungen ! Ich mag die Wiederholungen

Love the pace, love the stakes, love the cultures and religions

so far so good !! I was a bit sceptical because I’ve been disappointed by YA a lot lately, but this one has a really enjoyable writing, and the atmosphere is just *chef kiss*. I also like the world building, and although it’s not uniquely introduced, it is captivating and nicely layered.
I could also argue that the characters interactions can be a bit predictable or cliché but honestly I just don’t mind

« Eighteenth century France would have been a marvellous setting for her ». Best insult ever written ?? I WILL be using this in the future

classic, but well-executed, tone, pace and narrative, and beautiful writing

I wasn't expecting that tone AT ALL !?
It makes the book feel much older than it is, like maybe 70 years older ?! It's not bad or unenjoyable but it really surprised me

At first it truly reminded me of Kafka’s the burrow, but then it became so emotional, full on tragic, and I ADORED IT. Why do I relate so much to these middle aged men though, that’s worrying lol. 5/5

Masks was insane and fun, but I got used to how emotional and touching the other stories were so it wasn’t what I was looking for 3,75/5

5/5 !! I didn't at first, but I ended up loving the dual pov. Once again, everything was so mundane, a little tragic but in a very banal and humane way. I truly enjoy it. The characterisation fascinates me, it's always so subtle yet so realistic, but it often feels like the characters from every story could be interchangeable.

I liked the atmosphere of this one a lot, everything felt far away and unclear, both for us and the narrator. I also liked the pace, the writing, the memories chaotically brought up. But the end disappointed me, I felt like there was a build up for not much

I liked the pace and tone of that one, the stream of consciousness quality of it. But I left it with the same impression the first one gave me, a slight disappointment. I was especially expecting more from the title story

Second one was fantastic. It's really fascinating to read such realistically portrayed human lives encapsulated in just 15 pages. It was definitely well done, and I was touched by the -unexpected- depiction on fatherhood in this intimate way. Loved the last two lines as well
