I resolved to follow Burrich’s advice for a young man dealing with elderly women: be attentive and polite, cheerful and pleasant of mien. Old women were easily won over by a personable young man. Burrich said so. I have a feeling this may not go as planned...

I love it when an author tells me a character is astute when they are so obviously not. Lol. Gillian may be a beautifully charming English lady (as they all are you know) but the sharpest tool she is not.

These types of books are my go-tos for slump busters. Even while I'm mentally cursing the characters or rolling my eyes at their antics I can't help but be glued to the pages.

The injured leg stood out like a bruise; the cool anger on his face was worse. Everywhere, like fingerprints, the marks of the world outside the lakelands stood out on his skin—a constant reminder of how much he’d walked through to come home.

“Look at that: he’ll go only so fast as a walk.” “I’d have run,” I said, resentful. “Exactly,” Marthe said softly. “You don’t set your pace that steady if you think you’ll ever get to stop walking.”

I'm not really big on multiple POVs, especially not more than 2. We'll see how this works out...

It's starting out a tad slow. Funny(ish), but slow. I have a feeling it's going to pick up soon though.

I just pre-ordered my tickets to see The Martian. I think it's going to be fabulous on the big screen. I so excited!!

Um, not sure what % I'm at right now but I think this is going in the "Maybe later" pile. The lead character is young and selfish. I'm hoping the author is setting her up for some harsh reality checks but I have too many others on my list to deal with the teenaged "me me me"-ness of her (not to mention a real live teenager at home).

A living city made of spires of bone that speaks a language only certain people can understand? Hmm...we'll see if this weirdness works.

I know I have other books that I really should be trying to finish BUT this cover man, it drew me in. And so far it's exactly what I hoped it'd be: eccentric, mysterious, and funny. It wasn’t that I did not believe in ghosts; it was that I believed in them in the same noncommittal way that I believed in giant squids or lucky coins or Belgium.

Well this just took a weird, unexpected turn...

If I make sure she feels good first, then she might let me sleep afterwards.

I'm just getting in to the good part but now my work break over. Gah! I need them to get on with this baby in her business.

This is not fun, alien sexy times. It's a crazy ass scifi horror. But weirdly enough I'm still digging it..

Just getting into book 1 but it's off to a pretty good start. Super science fictiony, which surprised me, but I like scifi so it's working for me.
