I kind of love how she ranks these in the same catergory of intimacy.

They found themselves steeling their courage and saying, "Yes,sir" into her glowing violet eyes...She knew her eyes were as old as the world, but burned with the fervor of youth. She'd traveled a great deal, and heard sweet words as well as curses. She knew who she was, and she was born for this role.

Okay, so maybe Shanti is just a bit bad ass.

I'm warming up to Shanti now. Not saying I love her yet but I'm starting like her. It helps that the writing is fun and easy too.

The twitch of her nerves was like the beating of a billion tiny wings, as if messages passed from his breath and his hands through her skin and back again, the way bees stroke one another’s antennae, feeding one another by touch. Maybe this was what a new queen felt like before she launched herself into the air, the drones closing fast. Bee references are a little weird but I get it.

I always thought about rot when I came toward the row of stores; I thought about burning black painful rot that ate away from inside, hurting dreadfully. I wished it on the village.

This book is becoming more and more bizarre. I have yet to decide if that's a good thing or not. I like bizarreness but with a purpose and not just for the sake of being strange. That's just trying too hard in my opinion.

I want to love this book. Really, I do. But some things are just irritating the crap out of me. Like Silar and his "What other use do bosoms really have but a man's pleasure?" and women in this book have access to a power men don't so guess what happens. Yep. They are executed at birth lest the have sex and kill their partner. That's what concerns them most...that she may kill a man with sex. Gah.

I keep changing editions. Sorry! It just made more sense to update on the books individually vs the omnibus. Anyhoo. Again. It's starting out okay but the world is a tiny bit confusing. Apparently they live a long time but it hasn't really been addressed. And the bonding/mating is weird. It can literally kill you.

I've read the first chapter or two of the first book. I'm still a little lost with the system set up. I keep going back to the glossary to reread definitions of the terms to make sure I have it right in my head. Mostly having to do with "nalka." Seems bizarre to me. Other than that (and a few other character things) it's starting off not bad. We'll see...
